Can the Duet Controller control multiple SB devices (i.e. similar to who you select the device to control in Squeeze Center)?

Yes it can, you can select individual devices and also the Controller itself as a device for playback (via the small loudspeaker and/or mini-jack) .

Yes. Absolutely!

In fact, the Controller is it's own playback device.

Finally, in the latest software, the internal DAC in the Controller has been turned on. You can select the Controller as a playback device and stream your library or internet radio, direct to it. Plug in a pair of headphones to it and you can listen to tunes wirelessly anywhere within reach of your wi-fi network.

(Darn! Phil beat me to it)

Cool.  I have two SB3s, and would like to get one controller for both.

My primary motivation is to control on one of the SB3s when I have the music piped outside to the back patio.  Speaking of SB3 and my patio, I love to show people Pandora on my laptop (WiFi) while having beers on the patio.  I explain how it will allow me to create my own stations, and then stream them to my laptop.  People are intrigued but expect that the music will come thru the laptop speakers.  I then hit play on Squeeze Center, with the volume cranked, and they are quite surprised when the patio is flooded with loud music.   My outdoor speakers are well hidden, so people are confused for a while before they figure it out.

Sonos controller is available by itself if you need another to add to an existing Sonos system, but the controller has no value without a player. Sonos needs a folder of music on the network to play, it does not store music. But it doesn't require a computer to run server software, it runs that inside the player. A cheap NAS can be used to serve music.

Just read the above thread (as an example) as I have issues with Alien BBC recycling on my Controller.  Scrolling through the Duet posts there are many examples of users with issues (some of their own making).  My point is that the Controller is a very innovative and breakthrough product, but it is NOT a plug and play consumer product.

I have had a SB3, now have a Duet/Transporter/Controller.
I've used my Nokia N800 as a 'remote' with no issues, and found the Controller to be a PITA - buggy, freezing, recycling, poor battery life and generally unstable.  When the Controller works its great and when it doesn't it's about the most infuriating device known to man, we are all beta testers for Logitech on this one.  If I had my time again I would go for the Itouch.  Hopefully they'll get it right one day.
Having complained about the Controller the SB3/Duet/Transporter options are all 3 great concepts.

I have installed the Sonos Music System for a friend and the interface is more reliable and mature, but you get less functionality, it's definitely worth considering.  You have to be a nerd to install and maintain a Logitech system, the Sonos System requires less nerdiness and they have a superior customer support process to manage it.

You didn't ask the question but I've compared a Bolder SB3 with a standard SB3, a Modwright Transporter with a standard Transporter - both the modded components are in a different league when compared to the off the shelf components.  Haven't heard the ART (Pat) mod so cannot comment.

Since bitching on AC about the instability of the Controller I can now say it's been fixed (touch wood).
I had no problems with a Transporter, SB3, Boom or Duet, but for some reason the Controller was unstable in my network and apparently (based on reading the SlimDevices forum) I wasn't the only one with this issue.
Not sure what the fix/es were but since a recent factory reset it's worked great.

I assume those Duets did not include the Controller for $199?

If so,  that is a WICKED deal.

I've had my Duet for a year and love it!

BTW, those of you who are talking bout selecting the controller as a playback device, can you tell me where I do that? I have (seemingly) the most current software update, but can't seem to find how to fire up the controller.

Thanks!

EDIT: never mind, I found it....how cool is this! Now I can take it into bed with me and listen to my music before I go to sleep  :thumb:
