Indeed...it's very sad. My condolence to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Back in August I just e-mailed to ask John for his comments on his favourite class-D amps vs Bryston with regard to the Maggie speakers. He was so kind to reply back to me within half an hour. Although the current world economic crisis does not permit me to order the new 7B's, here's his e-mail I want to share with those of you who are lucky to be the owners of the Bryston amps:

Hi Klao,
I guess I have to say that, all else being equal, I'd recommend the Bryston 7B-SSTs with the Maggies.
When I owned my 7B-STs the Maggies were the only speaker I owned that had any synergy with them. In other words, they were the one speaker that allowed the Bryston to strut itself. If the new 7B-SST sounds as good as the 28B-SST, it'll be a pair of amps that not only sound great into the Maggies, but will sound great into any other speaker as well.
The ..... are fabulous amplifiers but I have no idea how they'll do into something like the Maggies. I don't know how the amplifiers will fare over the course of the next twenty years either-- not that I have any reason to believe that such cool running amplifiers would have any problems.
But I know that the Bryston amplifiers sound great with Maggies, I'm confident that the 7B-SSTs will sound great with lots of other speakers, too and, in the end, the 28B-SST was a better amplifier than the ...... and I suspect the 7B-SST will be as well. If there's a chance that you're going to be holding onto your next amplifier purchase long enough for the 20 year warranty to be a factor, you should get the best amplifier you can find. The ...... is a superb product for those who think that they represent a significant investment (which is a lot of people) but the Bryston is better.
Best,
JP
