I have loved Porsches since seeing a new 911 Turbo at the Boston Auto Show in 1980. I was fortunate to be invited to a private showing of the Ingram Collection of Porsche road cars last night. There were about 30 pristine cars there last night, about half the collection. I saw 959, new silver GT, 3 Speedsters, 356 Pre-As, A, B, 911s old and new, T, S, 2.7 Carrera RS ducktail, original 1975 911 turbo, factory slantnose 911 turbo convertible, 911 Speedster, original 356 Carrera race car with factory 904 engine, a couple of 356 Carreras all restored to perfection. Many of the cars have an interesting story. The highlight for me was a personal tour by the restorer of the 1949 Gmund coupe, #17 of 52, the oldest surviving Porsche in the world. I first saw that car in a magazine 20 years ago! He allowed me to open the engine lid, smell the fumes, touch history. My new friend the restorer told me the story of meeting the man who beat the aluminum body of this car by hand. He was getting bored by the 17th car, so he invented the famous protruding turn signal arms, installed for the first time on this car. I've been invited to bring my boys to the restoration shop, that should be fun.

Oh, and the restorer is an avid vinyl audiophile, of course.

Sounds like a dream day for a Porschephile!!  I've owned 4; 1973 911S, 1988 911 Carrera, 1988 944S, and a 2003 Boxster.  Sold them all.  The worst mistake I ever made, car wise, was selling the 1973 911S.  I still have nightmares about the new owner driving that car away and that was 9 years ago!

Once I get 2 sons out of college I'll be looking again.

Closet Porsche fan here, I have driven many of them and have seen most of them in action either at a Vintage Race, Track Event,Auto X, IMSA ,etc. Great cars. I have not owned one yet.

My favorite that I'm looking at is 88' 911 Carrera, I have driven the 72T several times and it is more flexible than the same vintage S. Best looking is the 2.7 73 Ducktail rear flared IROC cars that Penske prepped for the series.

Jump to the Modern day 2 great cars are the Boxster S 550 and the Cayman S.

Best car I have ever driven on Track, mildly, and Auto X, competition, 06' GT3. Simply Awesome. If you can afford it get one

Penske IROC cars were 1974 3.0 911RSR's.  One of the rarest modern-day Porsche's.  The 1988 911 is a really really nice car!  It makes the right noises, has the Porsche smell, etc.

I was a big fan in the '70s and '80s until they got really expensive.  During that time I had a 65 356C, 66 911, 66 912, 67 911S, 67 912, 69 911E, and 72 914.  I drove a friend's 76 911 turbo and scared him a bit correcting the steering wheel as it slid around corners.  Those early Porsches were a lot of fun as they had short wheelbases, which resulted in oversteer when driven hard.  I later drove a mid-90s 993 and it was too refined for my taste.

I saw Bobby Rahal and his Dad race different iterations at Mid Ohio vintage races. The 906 is simply understated excellence. I would luv to have the over the road edition of the 906

I prefer the 904 for its looks.  The 906 and 910 were not particularly attractive race cars.

I have Porsche's for the last 20 years, and still love those cars, I changed every 4-5 years, before I buy the next one ,I do shop around for other cars but finally finish at the Porsche dealership, last week I changed my 04 4s with 29,000 m for another one 09 4s with the racing chassis and PDK. I enjoy every time that I have Togo to work

I had a 924s back in the 90s and have always wanted a 968.

Great cars but the upkeep is just outright silly. I used a Porsche mechanic in Williamsburg who had 14 of his own...some really nice rides but the proof is in the pudding when he  drove a beat up red pickup and his wife a Mercedes wagon.

For racing the 911-GT1 was a gorgeous ride...especially in EVO trim.

The current GTs don't really do it for me just because there are so many, but they are still sweet cars.

You must be talking about Robert in Williamsburg.  He was also my mechanic when I was stationed at Langley 1993-1996.  Incredible mechanic; I called him the Porsche Nazi (aka soup Nazi from Seinfeld).  I'd bring in the car and he'd immediately say who touched "my" engine.  Of course I'd say I had messed with something and he'd always say Mark don't mess with "my" car, I work on it and you drive it.  Dabs of red paint on every bolt and nut from torquing each.  You could eat off of my engine when he worked on the car!
