Headshells?
« on: 10 Dec 2008, 12:53 am »
Silly question but does it matter the headshell that is installed on your tonearm?  I have the Technics SL-1200 I went to Guitar Center and purchase a decent headshell "Stanton" brand which I was not too happy about but since I needed a headshell I went with it.  The cost was cheap, around $11 but I am not happy since is not a Technics brand yes I'm being very picky but....  You guys know we are all picky, anyway.  Does the headshell brand or type make a difference of should I just stick to good ole regular OEM?

Sorry for the newbie vinyl question...

Thanks~!

in construction and value is the sumiko hs12:

also available from other sources.  there are TWO retaining pins, above and below, adjustable azimuth, and the wires are premium litz that for $20 alone.  i have several of these shells and they are my faves.

theyve been discussed at length at audioasylum.com in the vinyl asylum, just search the archive.

LP Gear is another good source for headshell options.  I believe the Zupreme is very similar to the Sumiko....

the idea that they are both made by jelco and are nearly identical.  in view of that, i wouldnt want to spend the extra $9 for the zu.

Not that it matters much, but I think both are made by Nagaoka, not JELCO, for LP Gear and Sumiko.
