I just finished watching this.
Great stories, great music. Rock and Roll, Race, and Cadillacs. It jumps around a bit, but is enjoyable.
Jeffrey Wright did a wonderful job as Muddy Waters, also doing his own singing. Of course it's difficult to match Muddy's delivery. Beyonce Knowles' acting was a pleasant surprise. Her cover of "At Last" was excellent. Actually, All of her singing is amazing. Adrien Brody was his typical stellar self. Mos Def, portraying Chuck Berry, sang his songs with enthusiasm.
I definitely want to deepen my knowledge of Muddy and Etta's music. Little Walter too.
I watched Cadillac Records on BluRay, and the image quality and sound was excellent(TrueHD 5.1). The colorful imagery was fine, but I did wonder if the art direction could have been a little grittier to match the feel of a lot of blues music-or maybe my perception of it. Though I felt the overall production design was very good. The BR extras: Making of, Featurettes, etc. were decent.
As I stated in the first post there is another film about Chess Records-"Who Do You Love?" Hopefully it will show up on Netflix. Phil Chess was barely a character in Cadillac Records. Since "Who Do You Love?" is more about Leonard Chess himself, likely his brother will show up
I recommend Cadillac Records, for all you music lovers, whether a Blues fan or not.
Cheers,
Ed
