Is someone trying to "gaslight" me?????
« on: 25 Nov 2003, 04:22 am »
Ever get the feeling that some gremlins (or maybe even underpants gnomes) are sneaking in at night or while you're at work and fooling around with your gear????  I played around with the stereo some, moving its physical location and swapping some gear:  for a while it sounded great, then the gremlin/gnomes visited and it sounded terrible so I swapped some cables & changed gear.  Tonight, when I came home from work,  the good gremlins had visited and things sounded as good as they ever had. I was puzzled (but happy).

(BTW, does anyone else use the term "gaslight" any more or am I becoming a fossil???? [It's from a famous movie with Charles Boyer & Ingrid Bergman ((hubba hubba)) ].)

There were two nights in the past week or so that my system just sounded awful.  I thought a tube was going bad, but later they all seemed OK.  Then I remembered the solar storms that have been occurring and I figured that had to be the cause.  Those tubes were fading in and out to the ebb and flow of the solar radiation like the aurora borealis dances across the sky.

Well, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

Boy you had me fooled by that gaslight term. For sure I thought someone was blowing smoke up your @@s. I've never heard that terminology before. I too believe that Borealis theory. Last thursday night when the nothern sky was lit up, nothing was working right from my webtv to the telephone to the satellite system. But what a night for a walk! Regards, Robin
