Gregg's standard cable has two wound wires per terminal end, total of 4 per each wire pair. The option wire has one thicker wire per terminal end, total of 2 per each wire pair. The standard jumpers are bound together in the + & - pair. The option jumpers are individual wire terminations. I do not know if there is a difference in the actual wire material.
Gregg sent me a set of both to try on my speakers. Each of my speakers have a separate driver panel and woofer module, so I alternated connections from left and right and then panels and drivers over a few days. The option wire for me had more detail and more forward in presentation. Bass impact seemed greater and more resolved as well with this wire.
Gregg was the one saying this wire has had positive response with only Class-D, but did not find it was nearly as suitable with other amps. I would only be making guesses why he makes those specific suggestions, but he is good about answering his emails. He can be called as well, but recommend after 5:00 PM his time--CST in Illinois.
