Bryston B60 Integrated and Headphones

Hi

Just a few questions about the headphone output of the B60...

1. Is it a"headphone amplifier"?

2. If not, why would I need a dedicated headphone amp if it sounds pretty good even with minibud phones?

3. According to the manual:
The headphone output is driven directly from the preamplifier section. We recommend the use of headphones with input   impedances between 50 ohms and 600 ohms.   Headphones with input impedance values above 600 ohms may    experience some problems attaining sufficient volume levels.

What would be the issue with using headphones with a impedance rating of around 16 ohms?  Seems a lot of the "intermediate - grade" earbuds are around 16 ohms.
Even a "better" set like these:

have an impedance  of "only" 32 ohms.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Jim;

Sorry for the delay.

The headphone ouptut of the B-60 is taken straight from the line driver stage.  There is no extra headphone amp, and we feel none is needed. It is capable of driving any impedance of phone.  Into 32 Ohms, it will deliver a minimum of 5 Volts at any frequency from 20-20KHz, and 3 Volts into 16 Ohms phones.  This is more than loud enough to damage hearing over extended listening, so please exercise care.
