I would tend to agree. Which rock albums do you think make the grade?

So far, I've been very intrigued by Laundrew's suggestions....

Certainly more off the beaten path than the usual audiophile stuff.

Dunno, I only commented on albums I have extensively listened to. Incidentally Diana's was in my CD player this morning... she's on short rotation.

nap.

Rotating Diana krall hey?I wonder what her hubby would think of that. :green:

"The Sheffield Track/Drum Record" is a fun disc for those systems that has good tonal balance.

My PMC OB1i speakers paired with Bryston 7B revealed Ron Tutt drums' perfect tone and pitch true to the recording.  I like the fast dynamic bass without overhang.   Those Zildjian Cymbals were so energetic yet silky smooth.  Highly recommended!  Be careful with this CD as it can show the limits of your woofers when played very loud.

Gershwin by Grofe Harmonia Mundi

Original orchestrations by Ferde Grofe for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra.  Piano Soloist is Lincoln Mayorga and the alto and clarinet parts on some of the pieces are played by the 93 year old Al Gallorodo who played in Whiteman's band in the 30's.  Very good sound and orchestrations.  There is also an acoustic recording of The Yankee Doodle Blues played on a 1909 Edison Fireside Phonograph, which follows a modern recording of the same piece.  We have no idea how good we have it.

Arkivmusic has the disc.

This could be an insanely long list/thread so limiting it to some of the best recordings released in 2010:

- Thea Gilmore: Murphy’s Heart
- Corinne Bailey Rae: The Sea
- Caitlin Rose: Own Side Now
- Ray Lamontagne: God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise
- Amiina: Puzzle
- Natalie Merchant: Leave Your Sleep
