Have this handy when you're visiting those snooty high end dealers:

Nap.  :jester:

Put him in a suit and I would not be able to tell the difference in most cases. A co-worker was telling me he went to a stereo store in downtown Toronto and he could not believe the attitude that some of the "starched suits" displayed. It is unfortunate that polite etiquette dictates that we can not give proper credit to individuals that exhibit these most truly blunt-skulled behaviours we experience at some audio stores.

While searching for a CD player...

...and what amplifiers are you going to use? I will be purchasing Bryston 28B SST² mono-blocks with a BP-26. Oh sir, you can do so much better than those (voice dripping with utter disgust). What do you dislike about their audio quality?

I have never listened to them, the sales representative replied...  :duh:

We would probably have enough experiences such as this to fill a thread.

Be well...

It's a CD with redneck songs. If the dealer pisses you of, go for auditioning the "Bloody Beaver" track  Or better hide this track somewhere on your own auditioning  compilation CD. A "blank" CD looks inconspicuous...

For you yankees Walmart has this one for 3 bucks:

High End Audio..This is cute.

Ah yes. I spent most of my career in audio sales - mid-fi, high end, and custom. Almost no one gets the point of this video. For most salesmen - and particularly high end people - it is all about the gear first and who is selling it (a close) second. Their ego is all tied up with the product and they must demonstrate their superior knowledge. In fact, it's why they are in this line of work. For the customer, it is about what they want (even if they have been terribly misled into thinking it is a Bose) and about how much of their hard earned cash they think it is worth. Most of this is predetermined before the client gets to the store. The good salesman will make one or two attempts at educating and switching the customer then realize the futility. The good salesman will set his ego aside, hide his superior knowledge, and graciously and sincerely send the customer on her way (after validating her ticket). The good salesman will have the private phone number of the best Bose salesman in town and will call him on her behalf (and enjoy the high end referrals that come back to him from the Bose guy). The good salesman will never blame Bose (or anyone else) for his inability to make a living selling high end gear. There are very few good salesmen in high end audio which is one reason it is dying. Is there a commission on that Wave Radio? If there is it doesn't go to the loser high end guy or to the Bose salesman. It belongs to Oprah.

How about the audio mags. Many people buy one before deciding to make a purchase. Like they do with camera or computer or car mags. When they look through them and all they see are $50000 speakers with funny shapes they might give up.

Nap.

Audio magazines

Are they not in-between the romance novels and the fiction sections at the local bookstore?
