I like classic metal, thrash, black, and speed. Gothic is ok.

Vegas Dave: You make me feel old. That's what my music collection was looking like, some 20 years ago.

Wow, thanks for that one.  Hadn't heard of them before, and the local shops don't carry the CD's.  Did manage to find an LP of what must be their first album, and it included a CD as well.

Whanafi, try to get "Live In Japan", I think it's the best of the three they recorded so far. Very good recording, natural & dynamic without any studio overprocessing. Also excellent selection of songs, plus R & G indulge in some electrifying virtuosity moments. The public goes nuts from time to time but in a polite japanese way - they are actually complementing the performers, not obscuring them. The result is fantastic. As a bonus it comes with a DVD with videos of 5 of the tracks.

This must be the worst recording job ever. Track 2 is absolutely unlistenable due to an incredibly shrill, ear piercing, distorted top end. Guaranteed ear bleeding.

Useful for making your guests leave.

Or playing a prank to an audiophile friend. Like listening to this CD on his system. "Mhhh this recording is actually a reference for very extended, smooth top end, there's something wrong with your speakers placement, you have some friggin' reflection from somewhere". Lend him the CD and let him go ape. Even more fun if he has the speakers on spikes. By the end of the week he'll be busy replacing the hardwood floor.

Or take it with you to an audio dealer for auditioning equipment. "Do you guys have some decent cables around, this will never sound good through lamp cord".

Otherwise the vocalist is Elizabeth Fraser of "Massive Attack" fame. I wish I could listen to it, it's a really special and interesting work.

Dave, you're already some 12 db down at treble perception, what you really need now is an Yamaha amp paired with Klipsch speakers. You can send me the Brystons to dispose of.

Perhaps one of these for vegasdave - a very nice Bose Wave System  :P

Thanks for the lead.

BTW, R Y G broke my Bryston.

I was listening to the album at reasonable levels (about 9 o'clock on a BP26) when about 15 minutes in, I lost the left channel on my brand new 4bSST2.

Talk about instant depression.

I let it (and me) cool off for an hour or so and called the dealer who said LED colour indicated it was a thermal trip.  Powered back on, and everything has been OK since, but looking at the amp sideways now.

Guess all that acoustic guitar banging and thumping is a challenge.  Have to stick to heavy metal....

Play anything loud enough, the thermistors in the protection circut will shut the amp down to prevent self destruction.

9AM is not that loud... Are you stacking something on the amp? How about some clearance around it?

When I have a long listening session and depending on what I am playing, I turn on the fans to help the amplifiers dissipate heat more efficiently.

I have a custom rosewood rack, with the 4Bsst2 on the bottom shelf.  It has the front and rear open, 12 inches air above and 2 inches to the sides.

The unit was very warm when it went, but then it is normally warm, and I don't have an absolute reference to compare to.  The ambient temperature was 25C.

Will have to pay attention going forward and see if it was the particular music, or if there is a larger problem.  I have had longer and louder sessions than that day, which is why it was such a surprise.

Must be something else. I have the same amplifier, less clearance, and listened louder (like in really loud) to the same record with no ill effect. Only difference is that in my room ambient temp is around 23 celsius.
