Wow, Christian Death, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

GWAR  ~War Party~

hi, Laundrew!

isn't GWAR the band which is always starting a mess when live on stage? like spilling (hopefully) artificial blood all over the stage and throwing guts towards the audience?!

oh boy...

Hello al,

Right you are. I have a few of their videos :D I have also read that some fans go to the GWAR shows with white shirts and treat them as souvenirs after they had been spewed on my the band

Be well…

Yeah, they're pretty good. I think I have one of their albums. Which other ones would you recommend?

Gloryland  by Anonymous 4 on Harmonia Mundi HMU 907400.  This is an acoustic group, four women, accompanied by mandolin, mandocello, guitar and violin on some cuts with a few instrumentals. The music is American folk songs, spirituals and gospel hymns.  You don't have to be a fan of this type of music to enjoy the cd.

The acoustic space and beauty of the singing, playing and the recording is incredible. I've run some good recordings through my 1.6s but never any that recreates the sound of the performer in the space as well as this cd does. With this cd you listen to the performers and the room they are in.

I second Bear Heath on this one - it has been on my must have demo list for years.

A hard choice for sure vagasdave - try "Tales of Innocence, A Continued Anthology" by Christian Death.

A4 will show any weakness in your mids and highs - you want to make sure they are rock solid to do these ladies justice and you will also find out how quiet your system really is  :o

One of the first CD's I bought back in the mid 80's when CD players sounded more than a little digital. The following warning on the cover is also cool:

WARNING! TIME WARP contains some of the most powerful signal content ever released on a commercial recording.

The start of track 2 (from 2001) has a base drum that is just audible, begging you to turn up the volume.

Time to let my hair down, or in my case, tie it up

Now you have my attention, Andy.  The Cello is perhaps my favorite orchestral instrument.  I have all the Bach Suites for Cello in the historic albeit noisy recordings by Pablo Casals.  I'll have to check this one out.  If you would like to try out some music written in the classical concerto form but modern and esoteric (pun intended!) try "Area 31" by David Chesky on Chesky Records (chesky.com).  It's an SACD no less so you can checkout the prowess of your X-05 simultaneously.  This disc contains a violin and a flute concerto.  He also has composed a bassoon concerto on another disc as well (not sure of the title at the moment).  The bassoon concerto is a wild one especially the 3rd movement which will test your system's dynamic contrasting capabilities especially if you crank the 28's up a notch or two. :D.
