I'd say the latest, "Lost Channels", from The Great Lake Swimmers is well worth a listen!

The great Les Paul died today at the age of 94.  His namesake creation, the Gibson Les Paul was made famous by the likes of Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Steve Howe and Al Dimeola.  I posted early in this thread Al's "Splendido Hotel" which features him and Les playing dueling guitars on an arrangement of "Spanish Eyes"--just incredible in a 1980 recording.  Les pioneered new types of amplification for the electric guitar as well as multi-track recording making it possible for a vocalist to sing harmony with himself.  Read on:

Hello 1oldguy,

I only have the CD version at this time. The listening experience of this CD on a horn based speaker system is simply breathtaking.

A friend of mine had this album on vinyl and the sound was incredible. When I go the turntable journey next year, this album will definitely be on my "must have list."

Have you listened to the re-mix of this album? It is also awesome

Be well...

Hi Landrew

I had the cd version as well. The new version with Phil Lynott should be interesting.Phil was a great singer bassist.Shame he went so soon. But a life of drugs is always risky. Was never my cup of tea.I guess we take our chances as they say.The dice don't lie.

hi, all!

for everyone who is interested in Folk, Psychedelic, Progressive, Garage, Beat and real Rock music from the very early days i would like to recommend Hans Pokora's ''Record Collector Dreams'' books. Hans Pokora has spent a lifetime to publish these books and they do include a treasure of rare rock music from all over the world. unbelievable.
what you will find is the cover, title, label, type of music and a valuation of rarity. so if you ever had the wish to take a close look beyond the mainstream of today's rock music this could be your answer. personally i own the first issue called ''1001 Record Collector Dreams''. furthermore Pokora released the ''2001, 3001, 4001 and 5001''.
this beeing said, the record industry rediscovered these special and almost forgotten musician and if you are lucky then some of your favourite bands are available as a CD again.

good luck hunting :D!

Solid female vocal combined with rather unique instrumentation - enjoy the mids and highs, especially in "The Art of Suicide."

Be well...

Having not gotten a full fix on the surf sound. I ordered a couple of Dick Dale cds.

Tribal Thunder, turned out to be a gem, most songs are fast tempo, with excellent picking. The sound quality through the BCD-1 was also excellent.

Only the one song 'The Long Ride' has vocals along with some cool drumming. The other songs best described as instrumental surf rock!

Tribal Thunder- rating 4 out of 5. :smoke:

Another great Toon band. I think they only ever appear as cartoons from what i can see.

Music is great with varying recording qualities but most are good. Very electronic but not afraid to use acoustic percussion and drums in their vibes. Try this one if new to them

Craig Armstrong - The Space Between Us.  Listen to it in the dark (really).  Sensational.
