There is definetly metal component to it .... but there is also a huge fan base that doesnt consider Tool to be strictly heavy metal. IMO the poly-rythms and off beat time signatures are hard to ignore and make it hard to categorize as strickly heavy metal. Either way its good stuff (most of it)

A Blu Ray that I just recently saw that I found very sonically pleasing was Sunshine.  It's from Danny Boyle - the produciton values are amazingly high even though it was direct to disc here in America.  Most new movies with space ships sound amazing....  Most blu rays with space ships will definitely tell what your system is made of.  I would highly recommend this to any fan of SciFi, Danny Boyle, and/or blu ray.

Hey James, u gotta check out Tool's 10000 in mono. I'm using the bp25 with an upgraded mps2 ps. The pre's mono  sounds great and the setting makes Tool sound live. Give it a listen.

Bill Frisell's Good Dog, Happy Man and Unspeakable are two very good electric jazz recordings.
His guitar is very passive and  yet can hold a wonderful beat over his band, very unique quality indeed.

His East/West coast is another great recording. The occasional clapping is always a bit startling as it reminds u that this a live CD. This is as good as it gets for live electric jazz.

East/West is very good, but an enigma.  The East portion of the concert (first half) Bill's guitar is out of phase to the rest of the band and sounds like it's coming from inside your head.  Another great Bill Frisell album, and one I use as a demo for testing "tone" (the ability of the tested subject to recreate the tone of an electric guitar, with enough electric sizzle and enough wet organic twang) is "gone, just like a train".

3. Emmy Lou Harris disc that really grabs me, but if repeated playing can wear out a CD (presumably not), I'd better get another copy of "Wrecking Ball."

Don't know why I never caught on to Emmy Lou Harris earlier.  After seeing the recommendations here I bought Wrecking Ball a few weeks back and really like it.  Her voice reminds me of Stevie Nicks and the band is excellent. 

Wrecking Ball has some serious low bass content that sounded a little muddy to me.  I figured it was due to room resonances but when I recently switched to 14BSST instead of 4BSST it helped provide substantially better definition of the low bass notes.

You know an interesting question as I am finding I prefer some on one system and some on other systems.  For instance Massive Attack on the 1400 Arrays and Raising Sand and Nickel Creek on the Quads.
