When I was considering the BCD-1, I asked the question, could Made in Japan by Deep Purple get any better than what I was currently hearing. I grew up on Made in Japan. Must have played it a zillion times and I still play it at least once a week.

Anyway as I mentioned previously, I restored Made in Japan with the BCD-1 process. The results have far exceeded all expectations of what I thought was possible.

When your system is capable of playing rock with all the cliches of audio. You know it can play any other genre of music equally well.

I agree. So, the BCD-1 breathes new life into old recordings like 'Made in Japan?'

Bryston equipment handles all genres of music very well. It must be beacause it's dead neutral!

I thought the whole album sounded exceptionally good on my BCD-1.

Black Sabbath- Greatest Hits 1970 to 1978. Re-mastered

They butchered 'Iron Man' by shortening it, my second favorite Sabbath song after 'War Pigs'. Fairies Wear Boots is also not on it, which is my third favorite Sabbath song.
If you like 'War Pigs' then you've never heard a better recording of it than this re-mastered edition.

That's cool...I just have that album on lp. UK pressing, which sounds awesome.

I have the 'Black Box' which is the same mastering?

Hi Dave,

You know an interesting question as I am finding I prefer some on one system and some on other systems.  For instance Massive Attack on the 1400 Arrays and Raising Sand and Nickel Creek on the Quads.

Al DiMeola-"Splendido Hotel".  A real treat on this disc is Al's arrangement of "Spanish Eyes" featuring his duel with the inimitable Les Paul (Al has the right channel and Les comes out of the left).  While you're at it check out his 2006 recording "Consequences of Chaos".  If you want to test your woofers crank them up for the intoduction to track 1.

Been listening to Katy Petty's new release One of the Boys. Remarkably good recording for mainstream.

Dan Hick's Beating the Heat is a great listen, musical and funny with a fantastic recording.

Tool - 10,000 Days...  Very nice to see that on your list James. Jambi sounds fantastic, that intro is so incredibly heavy. Wings for Marie and the title track are my favorites...  Absolutely the best live band I have ever seen, and their Artist collaborations with Alex Grey are simply beautiful.

Clint Mansell - The Fountain, this soundtrack is so incredibly moving.  It's with Mogwai and the Kronos Quartet. Listen and be enthralled.

The aforementioned were actually both mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering.  I have found that pretty much everything he has touched sounds top notch.

Very nice call on Opeth - Blackwater Park...  Damnation not so much, I was very happy to hear that Mikael said that he would never do anything like that ever again.  I think Watershed is precisely the route they needed to take.  With Mikael Akerfeldt back in Bloodbath it is no surprise that Opeth has taken on a more aggresive approach,  I like the new members much more.  It seems that alot of people were sad that Martin and Peter left, but as you can see Opeth has had at leat 8 members come and go, so Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance & Damantion were just a phase....  The fact that Mikael can put out such great material with every release is a testament to his artistry.

Heavy metal gets alot of slack and isn't really counted as music by a lot of people.  Sure the production is crap 9 out of every 10 albums...  But metal is music too!

Tool is definitely metal.  With their new album, they said having toured with Meshuggah (another excellent and very unique band) they wanted to play more to the heavier side and mess around with time signatures...  On 10,000 Days there are some of the most excellent grooves to date.  As you can see I cannot say enough about this band! :duh:
