My Bryston 4B_NRB and its Power Switch
« on: 25 Nov 2008, 03:16 am »
Hello

Recently the power switch in my 1992 Bryston 4B_NRB stopped working, so I called Bryston and received a new power switch to install myself-- they were very accomodating as to information on how to replace it.

I am amazed on how small and tiny the switch is (it was a bear to solder!) , and am wondering how it is able to handle the 7amps or more of current this amplifier can draw.  I would seem  that it would greatly limit current flow to the amplifier. Or am I missing something?

I am hoping James could ease my mind that this switch can/will somehow allow the full current that this amplifier can draw , especially with a Torus added.

Hi Rob,

We use 'lossless compression" on the power switch.

The front panel button switch is just to activate the 'soft-start' power switch relay which is on the power supply board at the rear of the amplifier. No audio signal goes through the front panel on/off switch.

Thanks, James, for the info .

I didnt realize the power switch on this amp controlled the relay which actually connects the amp to the mains.
