How about:

UNBOUND

Heres why I think it would work, it's an open baffle with no bounderies, obviously.  Also, it almost in a way gives homage to another great (at one time) speaker manufacturer that started it's company much like your did with break through technology and trying "out of the box" designs.

Unboundedness, it refers to several distinct concepts – usually linked to the idea of "without end" – which arise in philosophy, mathematics, and theology. Also read as...Infinity.

Anyway, I like it and it has meaning besides just a name.

How about Rush or The Rush?

added: GR Research presents The Rush open baffle loudspeakers.

Says fast and airy pretty well.  Imagining an ad with an attractive women in wind-blown flowing gown in front of speaker.

tagline: "Get The Rush from GR Research"

Well since "The Doctor" was suggested I would then submit

TARDUS  "Space and Time machine".

Danny

What's your target market with this speaker? If its $5 k to sell high end/ export, vs say $2.5k as a kit domestically, I'd think that appropriate names might be very different . .

Cheers

This one was e-mailed to me and I thought I'd get some feedback on it:

"In my verbal discussions with my audiophile focus group, many commented on the name "SPL". As far as something that is "stated" from one person to another they all seemed to think this name was very "catchy". They said they could imagine audiophiles saying things like:

- "Have you hear the new SPL speaker by GR Research?"

- "Those new SPL's by GR Research really rock, you really have to hear them!"

From a marketing "gift of gab" standpoint, I think my focus group has a fairly valid standpoint here, particularly with names like this one, it is not easily forgettable."

SPL sounds like a pro monitor to me, but what do I know.

I don't like SPL. It brings to mind "loudness", not "quality".

I was thinking the same thing, but just wanted to see that others were thinking the same.

Reminds me of car audio.  As in SPL contests.

Throwing out another bump for "Analogue".  :)

Ooh! ooh! How about "Veracious"?

How about the "Mistress"? You'll spend so much time away from your wife listening to it, she'll accuse you of having one  8)

OB-GYN?
Ha! You think like me, not at all helpful. The ratio of jokes to serious ideas is like 5 to 1. Poor Danny. How about a food name. Food shows are so popular. :wine:

This one might work:

GR Research  RENDER

(1): to reproduce or represent by artistic or verbal means (2): to furnish for consideration, approval, or information: as (1): to hand down (a legal judgment) (2): to agree on and report (a verdict)

It's got a nice ring to it, easy to remember and classy.

An speaker called SPL to me says it can play loud, but also implies “just” loud, maybe a PA sound . .

Of course its not just SPL we like, its unrestrained, clean effortless SPL . .

The GR Research  Effortless

In case this is possible...start treading into the latin...

The GR Research Exemplar -  "true to the original, every time you play it."

From the latin;
exemplar: model, pattern, original, prototype,   book to copy

Or, a little Greek

The GR Research Muse (a a sisterhood of goddesses or spirits, their number set at nine by Classical times, who embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance. Wikipedia)

-or-

The GR Research Polyhymnia (The Muse of Sacred Song)

-or-

The GR Research Harmonia - In Greek mythology, Harmonia is the immortal goddess of harmony and concord. Her Roman counterpart is Concordia, and her Greek opposite is Eris, whose Roman counterpart is Discordia.

The GR Research Zephyr - the West Wind

GR Research Rendition

It is a term that means "handing over"  or "surrender" this would refer to the fact these are not a kit, but come ready to go.  The idea being that this is a design a build that is a better representation of the designer/builder and not left to the discretion of a DIY builder.

It also refers to the version or interpretation of the music from the point of view of the designer.

Wiki "An interpretation of a musical score or a performance of a musical work."
