What do you drink with Turkey?
« on: 21 Nov 2008, 06:38 pm »
I usually have both red and white wine out.  This year, we are featuring 2007 Riesling Kabinett for white, 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape for fruity red and 2007 Moscato d'Asti for semi-sweet.  My wife and I (mostly I) always get a head start and will be drinking 2005 Chambolle Musigny as we cook in the kitchen.  aa  Last time we had this wine, my wife got giddy drunk and asked me, "why does wine have to taste so good?"  :thumb:

Spiced cider?  This also allows for the children to have a beverage - as well as those who don't like the alcohol.

Hey Woodsyi,

Chambolle Musigny

Zinfandel usually - yah, I know it's obvious but it works so well.

This year either a Bogle "Old Vines" Zinfandel (which is actually quite good for the money) or a 2006 3 Rings Shiraz (will have to decant this one a good three hours in advance). And either an '03 Alto Moncayo Garnacha or an '04 Juan Gil Monastrell.

For white, an '05 Riesling Kabinett (great minds think alike ) and an '05 Cour-Cheverny (Loire Chenin Blanc).

Apple Cider.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Yeah, mulled cider with a little rum in it hits the spot after dinner.

During dinner I'll probably put a decent Chard and a Zin or Syrah on the table. Hmmm, need to give it some thought and see what's in the rack.

Hey rpf,

Bogle makes a nice Petite Sirah as well, would give you a little more pepper taste than the Zin, $10 at our local food stores, try it, my wife loves it. :thumb:

Lets see, I will probably start with a couple of Dewars on the rocks and we will probably have a bottle of a good California White with dinner!  Then I will snore through the game on Thursday Night.

As already mentioned Gewurtz, Reisling (on the more dry side), Pinot, Zin (lighter, fruitier vs the heavy stuff).

I've also had a success with Blanc de Noir or Brut Rose Champagne.  Basically sparking Pinot Noir.  I had one T-Giving dinner that was all Champagne (Brut with appetizers, Extra Dry with soup, Brut Rose with main course, Demi-Sec with dessert).  That was a LOT of fun, though I don't really remember dessert that clearly.

Now where is that corkscrew ...

Spiced cider?  This also allows for the children to have a beverage - as well as those who don't like the alcohol.

And for those who do like alcohol, mix with spiced rum and a touch of butter and heat to a simmer
