Great budget analog, the Denon DL 160...
« on: 21 Nov 2008, 02:57 am »
Just got one of these in for review, and because it's a fairly inexpensive
piece, we didn't bother Denon for a review sample.  Retail they are about $170,
so if anyone here would like a bit of a deal after I've put a few hundred hours
on the cart, I'll happily box it up with all the packing and send it your way
for an even hundred bucks.

Shipping, insurance and paypal included to the continental US.

It's a killer match for the Technics SL1200 and the Rega P3. Nice and warm,
smooth analog sound AND this baby is a high output (1.6mv) MC cart that
features 47k loading, so you won't need a special phono pre to make it go.

If anyone is interested, let me know.  It will be available right around the first
of Dec.

We are giving this one of our exceptional value awards, offering killer sound
on a tight budget.

Just PM me if interested.

Hi Jeff,

As a matter of interest how does it compare with the denon dl103?

I need a new cartridge.

The DL 103 is a bit warmer.  Both work pretty well for the low price tag.

The 103 is a low output MC and tracks at about 2.5 grams, the 160 is a high
output and tracks at about 1.6 grams.

I'm a big fan of the '160...compared to some similarly priced carts a ways back and was stunned at how much wider the soundstage was on this puppy...just sounded more "right" overall. A killer deal!

+ another on the 160....

I picked one up when my Sumiko Blackbird crapped out and have been really pleasantly surprised by the price/value equation on this cartridge...
