Marbles,  Hello my friend.  Just to confuse you a little or add to your list.  You might want to go to sixmoons.com  (if that's not the right address just do a yahoo search), and read about The Bel Canto Dac 2 and the new Birdland w/remote.  They have two separate reviews (different Reviewers) there.  They compare the Bel Canto Dac 2 with the i2Digital X-60 interconnect to the MSB Platinum Plus, they said it was very close!!!  That is high praise indeed.  Just food for thought.  All the best, Guy

Marbles,

The key is the 192K upgrade.

I used the MSB Gold Link III with the P1000 Power Base with my old Rotel RCD-965BX as transport (connected by both excellent Kimber D-60 and LAT International Digital cables) operating at 132K overclocking on the DAC - it was good, but the jitter (I suspect that's what it was) was high and bothersome.

I have only heard my Sony DVP-S7700 with the 192K outputs and the DAC configured for it..however, I suspect, that no matter how good the Sony is as a transport it will convey too much jitter for (analog like) comfort on your extremely resolving system in 96 or 132K.

Long and short, I heartily recommend the MSB stuff for you IF you modify the Sony with 192K outputs....if not, you may have better choices among the other DAC's.  With the 192K output and balanced IS2 cable, jitter is a faraway entiry now in the system.  At 96 or 132K with digital cable, you may not like your results.

I love it in my system (I've all but given up TT now because of it).

Hi Marbles,

Perhaps you might also consider a secondhand perpetual technologies p1a/p3a combination and when it is available buy the socs correction for your speakers.

something to think about.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Just so you guys know, my Sony DVP S7700 has had $800 worth of modding done to it.  The first $500 were with Dan Wright, the last $300 were with Steve Nugent (Empirical Audio).  This transport has an ultra low level of jitter now.

Rocket, The P1a will be appealing when the SOCS is available for my speaker and RCS is a little closer to being a reality.

At this point I have to say I AM leaning in the direction of a Modded P3a.

Steve takes a basic P3a and does about $1400 worth of mods to it  :o  for his full blown DAC.

The sound without the Superclock was effortless and relaxed.  I can't wait to hear it with the Superclock mod.
