I hear you. Just figured I'd ask. In either case I have a SB3 or a Duet waiting here for when you have everything ready. One of them will be considered for this mod.

BTW, I know what you mean about the Duet. I don't know why they did it, but it's probably one of the worst network configuration algorithms ever. The SB3 is idiot proof by comparison.

ONLY ONE??????????? How am I supposed to make money?

I'm  glad that I am not the only one who is frustrated by the Duet remote. Great idea to get the display off of the unit. Just that there are unexpected consequences.

+3
I love the design and excecution, I'd give them an A+ for the look, the layout, and the very solid feeling of the unit. Love it, love it.
However, it's the most buggy device I've ever used. Hate it, hate it. My neighbor is about half pissed he bought a Duet based on my recommendation (and I can't make it work for him).

The SB3 remiote is just fine for my needs.

OK, PCBs are here. They fit inside the SB3. The next two questions are:

1.) Will it work? (Could be mistakes. Already found one, but minor.)
2.) How to route the mini-coax cables. Could be tense........

Three guinea pigs lined up. Should have answers for all within a week.

Waiting patiently. Are these PCBs the one and the same meant for use in the Duet?

Si. Hope to have one working before I call it quits for the night.

It fits..........barely...........had to make some minor adjustments, but it does fit in both.

Well, it fits but................headphone jack had to come out. PCB fits, but problems with the cables. Same as always. Went to a more flexible type. Helped some, but still a pain.

Moving it around a bit messed up how I was going to bring in the power cable. More later tonight. Have my "real" job to do.

Spent the better part of a day trying to stuff the first one in. That arrangement will not cut it. Trying a different approach today. Probably means PCB changes.

But it does work! So, stay tuned.

Use an iPhone or iPod touch app such as squeemote and you are in business. The Duet reciever is cheap alone and I think a touch is $200 so it works out close. This app was $7.99 but is everything I need.  Works super smooth and auto sets up once you connect to the wifi.

Getting closer to a finished version. Next step is to see if it will fit in the Duet.

OK, looks like all the bugs have been ironed out. Need to make some PCBs, just to make sure. Then, we are in business on this one.

Here is what it will look like:

The trick turned out to be flip it over, rotate it, move some parts to the other side............

Or as a notorious troublemaker from the DIY crowd (who likes to hangs around here and remind us how much of an embarrassment he can be to us all) likes to say:

"Turn the ship upside-down, Unk!"

Stay tuned.

Oh, the headphone jack............it almost stayed, but when it came to "How to get power to this PCB?", it had to go. The supply lead goes out the headphone jack hole.

If it weren't for that.

"Why don't you take it out of the TOSLINK hole?"

Messier.

Nice
If my eyes serve me, there is nice H pad on output and shiny LED Vref :D

Me think new power supply will be needed, 5V in not enough
Or to take juice from opamp supply, 9V or something in SB3..... is there enough juice?

If you need beta tester, me volunteer  :D
Nothing to do, already finished my homework and learned a lesson http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=45330.msg669916#msg669916

Two LEDs, actually.

OK, there will be two outboard supplies. They will share the same transformer, but different windings. One for the main supply, a separate one for the critical clock and output stuff.

The problem is the only way to have a low-noise supply is to start with one from the beginning. No way to filter the existing one anywhere near close enough.

Sure, if all you can do is a 3-terminal regulator of some sort. Won't matter much what you feed one of them with.

yes, not enough juice to prefilter.
2 LEDs + opamp based = low noise juice for clock & output stuff.
Me prefer shunt juice, but think your will be pass juice  :)
Have some nice high speed output stuff from N, will keep them

Pat, what does the work so far suggest with respect to fitting this in the Duet?

Are you planning to do protype installs in both Duet and SB3 and take measurements against both?

If it fits in the SB3, it can be made to fit into a Duet.

Prototype installs..........probably...........me asure........?...what? The are the same circuit internally. The only difference is the order of the pins they use on the hex inverter they use for the clocks and SPDIF output driver.

The mod itself is essentially the same circuits used in the Legato, re-arranged to fit inside of the SB3.

Ah, I wasn't sure if with the rework the SB3 and Duet were still the same.

Want a Duet for a prototype install when the PCBs are ready?
