i'd recommend emailing jim salk directly to see if he has any demo pairs or b stocks in the works. this might be a great way to save a few hundred dollars.

but i have to say, from all i've seen the biggest joy of ht3 ownership seems to be the process of selecting your finish and options for a pair that is suited exactly for you :).

good luck,

kck

Hmm, it would seem the biggest joy should be the sound, eh?  :green:

I tend to agree with the finishes.  These are a piece of art, most of the time.  Do you really listen to them 51% of the time you are cognitively aware?  Having never heard Salks myself, but read what persons whom have expericenced speakers I have, and have judged Salks, I am positive I would greatly enjoy them.  I have piano black speakers, my next set will be one that sets them apart acoustically as well as aesthetically.

well kck - i can't comment on the heard as i've not yet had the fortune to listen to a pair.  but if the sound keeps up even remotely with the looks...well... :).

JP78, as you directed to me I will reply, but all please note it is without malice. I understand that looks play a good part in the whole audiophile thing. I too admire the fancy finish and the occasional bling as long as it's tasteful (is that an oxymoron?). But by and large (and having largely avoided buying anything just for look's sake, a certain wood-topped CDP being the exception), I am at a loss to understand why some people refer to their hobby with the word 'audio' when there is SO much emphasis on looks.

Yes I understand all the pride of ownership stuff; I bleed too. But some of us go off the deep end with looks and sound seems to be just a secondary, if not tertiary consideration.

For example, here is a thread where the writer seems to equate finish quality with build quality with sound quality, effectively (in his mind, that is) blurring the boundaries between them.

This so-called AUDIOfan replies to his own thread (the second response), wherein he originally asked about performance and never mentioned looks, not once. A few months later, it's clear he's gone over to the looks and finish side, as his arguments in favor of one speaker over another are about everything BUT sound. A brief reference is made to ports but this happens as theory, without reference to actual sound, and another equating price with sound quality (huh?). Please read it carefully and tell me if this argument has any coherence at all.

While the above is just one example it is hardly alone in the wilderness; I know everyone has seen their fair share of this sort of thing. But when I read of people drooling over looks with very little if any regard to sound I have to wonder what it is they're really after. Most of the time I MMOB but sometimes I am unable to hold it in...

Oh BTW my favorite speakers that I have owned is the current pair, EP CS2, and one from long ago, Maggie 3.6. Both with looks only a mother could love...but oh what a sound.

I could care less about fancy veneers - doesn't work in my room, I wanted black!
Reason for my post - I bought HT3's because they gave me the sound performance at a price I was prepared to pay, equivalent performing 'branded' speakers would have been significantly more expensive.  For those needing a custom finish I see this as an added bonus, and I can understand the uniqueness and style benefits.

Are mine for sale?  Unfortunately not, I would only have to buy another pair to replace them.

Philistine, yours is an approach I can identify with. If sonic goals are reached and there is budget to put into appearance, this is certainly a great result. Good for you! I'd like to hear these speakers one day.

As a former HT3 owner (but still a Salk owner with SongTowers) and current CS2 owner, I can say that both are excellent speakers with different approaches but great results.

Both Jim and Clayton are true gentlemen to boot!   :thumb:

Mightyburner I sent you a PM,

I'm Evan's1 neighbor with the Salk HT-3s with most of the upgrades.

If you want an audition let me know I live in Staten Island.

The sound I am getting with my associated gear is wonderful.

I also live in the NYC area (Westchester) and have a pair of HT-3's. I'd be happy to host an audition.  Please PM me if interested.

Mine are about 2-1/2 years old and sound as amazing as they did on Day One.  I think I was among Jim's first HT-3 customers.

Good to see you still enjoying your HT3's Ken.

I know how much you loved hearing them that day at my place many moons ago.
