Thingamaknobs status...
« on: 28 Sep 2008, 12:08 am »

Hey y'all! Above is a pic of the last Thingamaknobs to be produced by me. Due to personal medical issues, I won't be accepting any more orders for about a month or so. Hopefully things will go smoothly and I'll be back in the shop soon. I truly appreciate all of your patronage, support and the fact that you've allowed me to help make your hobby a little more special and unique. I'll miss my shop and working with exotic woods, but perhaps I'll listen to my own rig a little bit more.

See you all soon, Scott a.k.a. some young guy

Those are gorgeous and I hope you get well soon. I am in a similar boat (foot surgery) and thankfully I can sit in a chair and solder but as for woodworking, I just look at my shop and whine.

Hey Scott,

Take care of yourself and best of luck with your recovery.  Maybe Mike and I will have a picture of our mending feet taken and sent to you from the show :D.

If you haven't seen it already, in the Carina in the House thread over in the single driver circle, Eddie V. posted a pic of my amp with the maple burl thingamabob you made for me some months ago. -- goes nice with the red chassis, eh?

Take care,

Jim

Hey guys, Thanks so much for all the kinds thoughts and wishes. My phone is finally cooling off!

I had the surgery and it went far better than expected. It will take 6-8 weeks for me to realize the full extent of the results as well as to know if I'll need more surgeries, but so far, so good. The pain was minimal. The technology was cool and I can already see better.

I feel well enough to start working again, so feel free to send your Thingamaknob requests my way.

That's great news Scott! About a year and a half ago they were able to repair an eye damaged by an RK surgery 24 years prior. Sometimes technology is a wonderful thing.

No doubt about that! The whole time I was in there, all I could think was how lucky I was to have this happen now. The doc told me that 2 years ago, I wouldn't have had this option. I talked to over a dozen people about this surgery and they all told me stories about how bad it hurt, how much of their vision they had lost as a result of the procedure, how long it took to heal, how they had trouble going from light to dark or vise-verse etc. etc. etc. I was a little freaked out thinking that I would come out with less than I started with, or I could skip it and go blind altogether... easy choice, tough decision.
