Let's keep this going in 2026! New gear, old speakers. 

VR4 SR's here. Following Albert's advice on ss for bass I'm using Crown XLS 1502. Up top I've tried:

Hegel H190 - unsurprisingly, not a good fit. Too much control. Too much emphasis on leading edges.

Cayin CS-88a with EL34 or KT88 tubes has been really nice. It smooths out treble and rough leading edges.

Surprisingly, and I bring this up because I haven't seen it recommended much with VSA, the solid state Mcintosh MA5300 integrated amp smooths out the treble 50% as much as the tubes but adds air that I've been chasing better than anything else I've tried.
