Looking at the thread title, it seems to me that the majority of people I know think that most of the music I listen to sucks; and no, there is nothing much I can do about it.

I enjoy classical music very much, because the repertoire is so vast and there is simply so much music to experience, however, my favorite sub-genre (if you can properly call it that) is that of the Classical
Guitar. It seems as if the art of Classical Guitar is largely ignored even by the most ardent classical snobs, but I think these type of arrangements are among the most complex and most important ever created for the instrument. I guess I'm a bit biased because I
am a guitarist, and I happen to love that sound.
What the classical guitar lacks in dynamics (since we're speaking of dynamics) it certainly makes up for with its vast tonal palette and marvelous texture, IMHO. I don't really like the way the classical guitar sounds close-miked though: it doesn't sound very natural to me. A fine example of a well-recorded classical guitar would be the performance by Norbert Kraft on the Naxos CD:
Villa-Lobos, Complete Music for Solo Guitar. To me, that's what a guitar recital actually sounds like.
As far as dynamic
intensity goes with this instrument, I've never seen anyone with such an energetic style as Kazuhito Yamashita, but I guess if you can play Pictures at an Exhibition on solo guitar, you'd better have a lot of stamina.

Anyway, just a slightly different perspective. I suppose the chances are good that if you don't like Classical music in general, you'll like Classical Guitar even less.
