2 HDMI sources, one monitor -- how to do it?
« on: 27 Aug 2008, 03:21 pm »
Simple enough question, but I know zilch about anything video, so how would I connect the DVI (then converted to HDMI) from my Mac Mini and the output of my Oppo player to the same monitor?  Only need one at a time and I suspect that an HDMI switch of some kind is needed, but I have no idea what to look for in terms of features, etc., and how much I should spend.

The monitor is a 27" or 28" Toshiba LCD TV.

Thanks for any advice.

Jim,
This is what you need. I have to get one too, eventually once I get my Bluray player and manroom Flatscreen. :)
There are others out there, but this is Oppo!

Monoprice has a HDMI switcher with remote for $20.90

I use a component switcher from them. It works perfectly.

Mike and Wayne, thanks -- this is about what I figured but great to have a couple of models to look at.

Thanks again,

Well, I probably wouldn't spend $100 on an HDMI switcher.  Most of these won't affect the picture at all, so it's not worth spending the extra money.
My suggestion would be:
Rosewill 3 to 1 Has Remote. $39 HDMI 1.3 Good Quality

The 1.3 is fairly important, and the price is right on this switcher.

I own the Oppo switcher and it works great. The inputs actually go in priority so if the device pulgged into input 1 is not powered on but the device in input 2 is, then it will automatically switch to that input. A cool feature for sure.

And what if you don't have a 3rd input?  Will it skip that one in the rotation?

Thanks,

Yup.

I used all three when I used it though.
