Fire in the building
« on: 19 Aug 2008, 11:05 pm »

Hi everyone,

As you notice I have been a little quiet lately.

Well we had a fire in the building set off by the coffee roasters. No one was hurt thank God and it happened during the day. I didn't get any fire damage, but the Fire department sure used a lot of water. It was Niagara Falls in here and had a lot of water damage.

Looks like new floors and walls etc. I have been dealing with insurance and inspectors and trying to get a schedule to when this work will start. I will have to move everything. Right now I had managed to get the shop running and doing my best to catch up. I will  post the schedules of the construction when I know more. I lost a lot of cabs, but saved all the alnicos. Some of the ferrites were actually floating in the water.

All is well and the most important thing was no one was injured.

Thanks,
Louis

Pretty burnt it happened on a Friday and we call it French Roast Friday as it's always extra cooked. This time they cooked the building.

Thanks,
Louis

Sorry to hear, Lou...

sad images of sacred music stuff floating around in water like that :(

no joke that the hugely positive part is that no one was hurt.

Very good to hear everyone's safe.
"Stuff" can be taken care of by insurance companies. But people, that's altogether different.
Best wishes on getting things back to normal real speedy like.

Hey!

Louis, sorry to hear that. At least you and everyone are safe :D

Didn't know that roasting your own French Roast could be this dangerous  :o

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Sorry to hear of the fire....glad to hear your OK Louis.

Any chance that the coffee company might now move...and give you a break from the caffeine clouds ?

That's terrible news Louis and it's in no way even your fault. At least everyone's ok, you will get back on track. :)

Whoa!  I just came across this thread - very sorry for your loss Louis and echo everyone's sentiments that we're really glad no one was hurt.  And, glad those Alnico drivers are fine!

I'm sure your customers will be understanding about any delay.

Sounds like French Roast Friday will never be quite the same again...

Wow Louis. Sorry to hear about this. As others have mentioned, material things can be replaced. Dealing with insurance companies is  different story.

Keep your head up. It's only a minor set back.

Sorry to hear about this Louis.  I am glad you were able to save all the new hemps.  God knows what would've happened if the hemps started burning.   I wish you the best and will be looking forward to a "fire" sale soon.

Me too.
 Most importantly, nobody got hurt.
Glad to see that it did not affected the Omega as the company.
It would be a tragedy. :(

Cheers

Very interesting! I roast coffee myself, for myself and co-workers. I have to stand there the whole time to manually stir, and outdoors, so no chance of fire during roast.
