After reading the post by TommyLee, banded now, I could not figure out what was his intention, pro or against audio-gd.
Or allow me to guess, the recent launch the audio-gd DIY Op Amp could be the trigger of these posts.
I am an end user only, the reason for this post is to share my purchasing experience with audio-gd product.
I came across audio-gd product when I was searching for a 1541 based DAC. Because of the shipping cost, I decided to buy their most expensive product. I am not from China/Hong Kong so I have no chance to listen to any of their product.
But I was convinced by the users' comments on their own forum (they are written in Chinese), the audio articles written by the man behind the business and the lay out of the circuit board. Have a look of their TOTL DAC, you will know what I mean. I don't care whether they are copy of Krell or Mark.
I ended up bought their DAC-8 and C-3 preamp, payment was two stages, using paypal (they charge 4% on top) and also western union (still expensive to send the money from Australia). Transaction was very smooth, no problem to send the money and gave quick acknowledgment of receiving the money (it was a bit of worry if you sent the money using Western Union). Shipping was by DHL, weight was just under 50Kg total, so keep in mind, it cannot be cheap in shipping. All their housing/cases are thick aluminum. Packing was reasonably good and most important no DOA. Because I believed their product are made by order and it looks like that they are doing their business very well locally, plus I have changed my mind for my ordered items, I have to wait a couple of months before receiving the goods. Yes, couple of months. However, it is worth the long wait. So if you decide to buy from them, make sure that you will ask the approximate shipping date. Also, you have to aware that their top of the line product plus shipping is not cheap, no resale value (at least for the time being), no clear refund policy, plus the risk of DOA.
I never own and heard any Krell, accuphase or Mark or big $$ products, so I cannot comment or doing any comparison. Compare to what I have and you may have some idea
1. preamp - tube preamp using 4xECC32, Prometheus TVC+buffer, Yamaha C-2X
2. power amp - tube mono block using 4xEL34, Yamaha MX-1
3. DAC- Lite DAC-68, Musiland MD-10
4. CD player - DIY CDPro2, Sony XA-7
5. record player - Technics SP-10, Yamaha PX-2 with Linn Linto MC amp
6. Speakers - Yamaha NS-1000M
C-3 and DAC-8 replaced all my DACs and preamps I have. And I have just placed an order for their C-3 power amp to complete my system and I feel my endless search for better sound can stop here.
I wish this may help for those who are still undecided
