What would be even better is if he converted a $350 laptop into a memory player using freeware, and is using this to produce the product... on the beach sipping Pina Colodas and laughing all the way to the bank.

I have to say that thought crossed my mind....
If I can get the Nova Physics people to cough one up for

We can confirm that our process has nothing to do with Nova Physics' product. If you think that comparing them will show this link, then you would be wasting your time. We of course encourage comparing the two, or just listening to both - especially if it is for the expansion of your audio knowledge of the two processes and aural results.

Anxiously awaiting the samples from Undigitize.  They are saying they
should go out sometime this week.

It has been like dealing with the borg collective.  No names or phone
numbers are given and all correspondence is written in a "we think..."
mode. Everything is hush-hush.

So hopefully next week, we'll see if I've flushed 100 bucks down the toilet
or not.

Interesting...I'm glad to see Jeff giving it a go to let us know what's up.  I don't see myself using this anytime soon, but I'm always curious about claims. 

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a company response with an offer to pay regular price for their services with: "That would be acceptable."

Maybe you haven't established enough credibility in the audio comminuity yet Jeff for them to trust you?  Then again they do already have your money so who's trusting whom here? A business being run like that, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole regardless. It smells of a legalized rippoff,,,, legalized on their end that is.

The lousy disc is Kiss Alive.  Worst sounding CD I have.

 [One] of the worst recorded rock CD's available. I am a Kiss fan but have heard MUCH better quality recordings come from someone's garage. There is another one that is just as bad but the name is slipping my mind at the moment.

 I'll be curious to find out if there is any transformation to this recording. Keep us posted Jeff.

Yeah, that's why we are uncrating the new Gamut L-9's right now (about 180k)...



But I agree with you that I have put the first foot forward. I sent them their money
immediately, so I am hoping that this is something exciting.

My daughter had my Kiss Alive CD, so I sent them an old copy of Carole King's
Tapestry, which is equally compressed and rolled off.

 That should work just as well. I have Tapestry on SACD and it can be a killer to the ears at times.

Should you reread the full dialogue from the excerpts in question, you will see that this particular reply was in response to the following:

There is nothing that can be done about the roll off, without remastering, as it is a result of the analog of the time and/or the treatment of the original recordings. By compressed, we imagine you mean digital compression, in a way? There is definite distortion added due to the ADCs of the time. As far as the dynamics, they are quite good for most of the tracks, and many current mastering engineers would die to be allowed to have this amount of dynamic range for the majority of their masters.
