iTunes does not recognize CD to be imported
« on: 11 Aug 2008, 07:24 pm »
iTunes 7.4, Vista environment
CD inserted into computer's CD/DVD drive
iTunes does not show the "device" and CD/songs as it normally does
I have to shut iTunes down insert a disk and restart iTunes and I have to do this for every disk

Under edit, preferences, advanced, import everything seems to be set properly

Any thoughts?

This has happened to me a few times on my Mac recently.  I've not had to restart iTunes, but I've had to insert the CD (it does go out and get the album info, then just disappears), eject it, then insert it a second time....and it works fine...

I've posted regarding my similar problems with iTunes not recognizing a cd/cd-r at various times. This only started after installing Leopard on my office and home Macs. Older operating systems never did this. Various tech forums mention this problem and not one person has offered a solution. I've run aftermarket diagnostic programs, everything checks out fine. The sales staff at my Apple store deny having heard of the problem and I've not gotten around to setting up an appointment at the "Genius" bar to investigate further. It's an annoying PITA, most unusual of Apple to allow a glitch like this to go on so long with a fix. I found mention of the problem on Apple.com's support area, but no mention of a fix.

Have you tried reinstalling iTunes? I haven't had this particular issue and I'm running it (iTunes 7.7) on 5 machines (2 with Leopard, 1 with Tiger and 2 with XP Pro).

Correction I have 7.7 as well.

I will re-install if no other fix appears tonight.

Apple doesnt recognize problems not reported in their database. Ive been to the apple store and Ive gotten into arguments with the "Genius" bar techs about known problems reported all over the internet and they refuse to admit it even after recreating the problem themselves.

I got back at this last weekend.  The following fixed my problem.
edit - preferences - advanced - import and then shut itunes and re-open.

Now I need help setting everything to get the best possible SQ.

Computer volume all the way up.......what else?
