Hubbell HBL8300 receptacle on Ebay
« on: 7 Aug 2008, 05:05 am »
I picked up some HUBBELL HBL8300 receptacles from this seller on Ebay. When I received the receptacles today, they are made by Cooper. Are they the same quality as Hubbell HBL8300?

Furthermore, some of the receptacles are used and have paint on them like they were pulled from some job site and definitely NOT "NEW IN BOX" as described in his listing.

Did I get shafted by this Ebay seller?

F100......you were deceived.  Not only did you not receive the HBL8300's (which are hospital grade *and* bright nickel plated, including the mounting strap), but you received a much more cheaply-made Cooper.  I would ask for the return of your money, and notify Ebay of this bait-and-switch.

F100....are they all Coopers inside those boxes?  That's deceptive in itself.

btw, the I8300's are $10.00 at Lowes (made by Cooper)....and they do work nicer than the $0.39 contractor grade outlets your home may have today.

If your plan was to use a few and resell the rest at profit....you probably won't have much action on them.  Tho, if you sell them for $5 each you might have some takers and make your money back.

If it were me, it seems too shady...I'd return them to seller, however, and buy some real Hubbells (or others)

Hi John,
Sorry, I was in rush to get to work this morning therefore I didn't see your post.
Yes, all of the receptacles are Coopers and half of them are used with paint on the back of it.
The seller said that he goofed up and he refunded my money. Thanks goodness!!!

Do you really want a 20 amp Hubbel? You need a 20 amp breaker and 12 gauge in wall wiring. If 15 amp is what you want then I suggest a HBL 5262 which is industrial grade and much stouter than hospital grade. Look for almost all brass parts and no nickel.

Actually, Zman....the HBL5262's and 5362's have the identical construction and contacts, along with the identical capacity testing to approx. 28 amperes and 600 volts. The only difference is the extra horizontal slot (on the 8300's face) and the additional set of contacts to accept a true 20-amp wall plug, which pretty much no one uses.  The HBL8200's and 8300's are also identical in construction and capacity, with the same minor differences noted above.

The primary difference between these series is the use of a different thermoplastic for the face of the HBL8200/8300, to achieve the hospital grade rating (drop testing, etc.)....the contact substrates are the same. The bright nickel plating (similar to chrome), as always, is a matter of personal preference.

It's good to see real date on these outlets. My eyeball inspection, made me think that both the 15 and 20 amp unit had the same size parts.
Only two reasons for using 20 amp outlets:
a) You have a line cord with a 20 amp plug.
b) You only have one outlet on a 20 amp circuit.
