I also picked up a Kenwood KD-3070 at a garage sale. It appears to be in reasonably good condition. I just ordered a AT 440 MLa cartridge for it. It had an old worn out ADC QLM 36 mk III on it.
It is fairly heavy and from what I've read so far, Kenwood built, or loaded, the plinth with some concrete resin. I haven't taken the bottom plastic shell off yet to inspect.
I see the A-T record clamp/weight being used below. Are these, or something similar, a worthy upgrade?
How about a platter mat? ala ringmat, herbie, or other?
Is there anything to be done to enhance the tonearms? vibration wraps, wiring, etc.?
I'm planning on fine tuning this to squeeze out as much latent potential as possible. I have it on a maple butcher block so far.
Anyone have an owners manual or service manual for it?
Thx,
Kenreau
