If you are a fan of this band and own an SACD player,
I highly suggest checking the entire catalog, now
available.

Acoustic Sounds and most of your favorite audiophile
shops should have em by now.

Full review in our next issue!

Enjoy....

I have to agree One of my favorite bands, been thinking about buying a sacd player ever since I seen these were coming out in sacd. I believe Sony makes a fairly inexpensive player  :thumb:

If you want cheap and pretty good, get a used Pioneer 563...
You can find em for 50 bucks and they are surprisingly good!

As far as your squeezbox goes, I don't know anything that
will rip the SACD layer....

I got the full 9 SACD box set aa the sound quality is a big step up over the original CDs IMO. The Japanese mini lp CDs are very nice but will look worn out fast if you play them a lot, I intend ripping the CD layer to play through my squeezebox although I do have a SACD player as well.

If you don't want the mini LP versions they are apparently releasing them in regular jewel cases soon.

I would highly recommend these to any DCD fan.

Suggestions as to which one to buy first, for those of us who are only a little familiar with DCD?

Yeah, I think you can snag Universal players fairly cheaply these days.  The real question I have is about streaming...the day you can stream with SACD levels of compression....its all over. :thumb:

G. Michael,

I'd recommend the live album, "Toward the Within." It provides a nice overview of the band's varied musical stylings, despite the fact that most of the tracks are not available on other albums. If you can pick up a DVD of the performance, I'd highly recommend that as well, despite the grainy video.

The first album (with the mask on the cover) is the most atypical of all DCD's albums - it falls with the goth rock genre that was so popular in the early 80's, but nevertheless shows signs of what was to come.

As far as I'm concerned, all DCD's stuff is worthwhile - definitely one of my favorite bands of the last 20 years.

I completely agree with Wally King. "Toward the Within" is not only a great sampling of their work, but shows their talent as live musicians. Other than the applause, I'd never guess this is a "live" album.

While "Towards the Within " is a great album i don't think it typical of there work in general. I believe the material was all written to be able to be played on tour. Going on memory here too lazy to track down the reference . YMMV
