SuperNait - 2 minute follow up?
« on: 29 Jul 2008, 12:04 am »
Loved your review, but have a few questions...

1) how good was the headphone output?  Enough to not long for a dedicated headphone amp?

2) When you upgrade to another power supply, are you then wasting what you originally paid for or do they work in concert with each other?  I never have understood how the Naim system works when it comes to what part of what power supply is actually supporting which components and if the user has any control over that or what?

3) Good match for the Harbeth Compact 7ES-2 or does the Luxman really put the SuperNait to shame here?

I have a TecnoDec that I am thinking about upgrading with TecnoArm and a good cartridge TBD ($900-1,500 range...) and then just getting this over with by going with the SuperNait and SuperLine, maybe another Naim power supply, and speakers like the 7ES-2... other source would be a Mac Mini with iTunes so that is why the SuperNait has caught my interest.

Any and all ideas and observations most welcome... I have been in and out of the hi-fi seen for a while and have decided that I am going to jump back in with as simple a system as possible (prefer integrated amps) and just spend as much as I could possibly imagine and promise my spouse the equipment chase ends right then and there and I just focus on the music for the next ten years : )  She will hold me to it, so I have to do it right.

Hi Greg:

1:  The headphone circuit is excellent.  I could easily live without an external and I've
got a pair of Grado GS1000's, AKG 701's and Senn. 650's.  It worked well with those three!

2:  The additional power supply takes it to another level entirely.  Then the on board
supply only powers the power amp and the external takes care of only the preamp.

3:  Awesome match for the Harbeths!  I'm using that very combination in my living
room right now.

Whether it's better than the Luxman is another question.  They are both quite good.
