Hail to the chiefs!  I had to come home and turn my stuff on for a reality check.  I'm pretty enamoured with my system for my room but I could definitely hear it's limitations.  This fellow is a new acquaintance I met thru the Houston Audio Society and he's been trippin for as long as me but has invested quite a lot more time and money.  He moved from the city to La Grange, TX- made famous by ZZ Top- into an old, very pretty house.  While he was showing me his flower garden- the man has no lawn at all- I spyed a small detached house at the end of the garden and knew instinctively what it was.  He built it in the tradition of his main house on a concrete slab with reinforced staggered studded walls.  Even went so far as to install some air conditioning system that is dead silent.  In front of his Innersound amps was a tube pre that has to be the prettiest single component I've ever seen (I'll have to come back with the name).  The Houston Chronical did a feature on his garden which he showed me.  Some audio magazine oughta do a feature on him.  I got to get up to Arthurs, now!  Anyway, the man is a connoissuer and a gentleman.  He's already emailed me with the address of a Bulgarian cat who builds 45W single ended triode amps not 60 minutes from my house.

That's part of it.  If you stand beside one of them, you get basically nothing.  It's pretty much a full range null.  It's kinda weird hearing just off the wall behind the speaker.

In that sense they are easy to live with as they don't fill the house with sound.  In light of waveguides (Gedlee’s Summa’s and the SP Tech’s) this must be why the Acoustats are in a different league.  I remember when the Quad ESL debuted.  I heard them a few times in a few different places, quite bewildered by all the hype.

I owned a pair of  qual ESL's, from the early 80's until the mid 90's.  Had to sell them for because of their poor SAF.  But I loved those speakers, I was willing to overlook their shortcomings because they did the mids so well, and I didn't care that you had a one person sweet spot, that you had to stay in.

Yep.  I agree that there is something very special going on with stats, well, dipoles in general really.  After my Allison 3s I had the Acoustat 1+1s augmented with one of the original VMPS subs.  For power I had an original Bryston 3B and an Amber Series 70.  Does anyone remember the Amber?

From there I went to ribbons with the Infinity RS1b.  While I had those I went back to stats with the ML CLS1.  I just recently sold them to a friend that bought some new panels for them.  He really has them sounding nice.

Now I am back with the ribbons with the VMPS RMV60 / VLA system.  For me this has the best of both dipole worlds, stat and ribbon.

The name of the pre Travis is using, omitted before, is an Aesthetix Janus.  This in front of his Innersound amps.  The tubes must be laying on their side the unit is so small and nicely shaped.  It is a pretty mother, lemme tell ya.

I bought a pair of Acoustat Spectra 33's back in 1988. I still use them when the mood strikes. Most of the year they sit against wall in my stereo room. Most years they come out in the fall, which happens to be my favorite time of year.

I used to own a pair of Koss Model 1A!

For those that don't know or remember these beauties, they were a truly full range that were comprised of separate tweeter, treble, mid-range and base panels.   

They were very good! Cohesive, transparent, imaged amazingly well, with quite good dynamics.

I sold them to a friend, so I get to listen to them fairly often. I still miss them though...

Fall is my favorite time of year, also.  Had some Acoustat Three's before I moved back to the city.  Had some acreage before with lots of hardwoods and converted a small barn to my listening room and drinking establishment.  Split rail fence, a peach orchard, creek out back- it was pretty special.  I imagine that if I still had it I might still be using those speakers.

I remember Koss stats.  Used to be a cat in my town who built and sold his speakers and would A/B against anything.  He spent his own money on about 12 brands of speakers for that purpose.  I'd drop in to listen to the Koss. 

Oh, and I made a mistake above.  It wasn't Innersounds at Travis' house of music, it was Roger Sanders' very latest with his crossover amp and all.  I've invited myself back.

I too have returned to Acoustats (2+2's). Certainly they have dynamic limitations and are inefficient, but the boxless line source is one of the best designs ever for the home. All the hybrids (Innersound, Martin Logan, et al) crossover way, way, too high and the woofer boxes are not well constructed. I use sealed subs (Quad) crossed at 55hz. Pipe organs sound pretty convincing.

Not the first demo in the US, but probably the third...

They were in Los Angeles last week of June and up in Seattle July 11 and 12.
We drove up and auditioned them and my pair is on the way!

The CLX is fantastic.  I have Summits now, but these are truly a step beyond....

Spotted a SWEET DEAL ~ $700 for a pair of Acoustat 2 + 2's...  My ceiling is 4 inches too short for these line arrays.  So I told Rocket Ronny to pick them up since they are in his neighborhood.

Soon he'll be able to compare vintage electrostat's to GR Reseach OB-5's and SP Tech Time Piece Mini's.

What did the MSRP end up being on the new CLX's?

20k, Long time Di-Pole guy her as well, Maggies since the mid-eighties and Martin Logan Vantage's teamed up with a Velodyne DD-15 for the past three years.

I couldn't be happier, while room, set-up, placement are key, when done correctly they have rewarded me with some the most enjoyable music reproduction, escpecially piano in their price range and beyond, IMO.
