Why Mapleshade prefers maple over stone:

(Try Mapleshade's CDs for some really, really fine sounding recordings.)

User's reports of Herbie's footers between components and any shelf material...

...and, if the isolation footers work as described, the material of the shelf is immaterial.

IKEA Lack coffee table, side table (u-cut legs), and tv unit with vibration absorbing material and the right price.

Mapleshades prefers wood over stone 'cause they sell wood. Our company uses granite for all of our optical measurement systems (down to microns) where any vibration will make a blur (and a poor measurement). Granite stops vibrations dead in it's tracks. Marble is not as good and wood is a very distant (if even) 3rd. Also wood can take on moisture and expand and contract with temperate and moisture variations. Ganite just sits there.

One rule is that the mass wins. So, the thicker, the better, tho I thinks over 2" may be overkill for audio, maybe not.

Find a foreclosed McMansion in your area.  Help yourself to their countertops.

How about taking a slab of soap stone - following on the counter top idea there. That is something like 50$ for the square foot or so..
Drill somewhat into it 3 holes - or more - depending, depressions, and put wine corks in the holes.

I think that would be a silent amp platform!

And , a funny detail is that the best wine corks, are called "altec" ... How about that!

I had two slabs of granite 22" square cut and polished for under $40.... Just find a local place that does granite countertops and ask to check their scrap or remnant pile.... They'll pretty much give you the scraps for free and just charge you to cut and polish (or, at least, that worked for me).

Good luck!
