How you doing Frank? (I hope you are well and back on your feet)
Well, believe it or not that is what I heard from few audiophiles and audio dealers (that fear of my support for small but excellent brands like Dodd, RWA, Mapletree and others that sell direct).
It might be true if we were analyzing relation of current to amplification which I am sure benefits from all the juice it can get. I am not arguing that fact and its importance. I can hear the difference between my Cybers being plugged directly to the wall and when going thru power conditioner or power stabilizer/generator like my own Monster.
However I do not see any downside of going OTG for the front end where power demand is of less impotence. The quality of power delivered to these components (IMO) has bigger effect then one would thing.
I am not a fanatic or obsessively paranoid on this subject and like I said - I am very happy with my setup and fine tuning as well as final refinements are of my interest.
My philosophy is that if there is a way to make it better - why not .
I am opposed to idea of constantly rebuilding my system , adding new components and looking for new kid on the block. My rig was good and my last missing piece was the preamp that I could live with and that won't drew too much attention to itself. That is allready achieved and I couldn't be happier since the search for this preamp was a pain in the butt, my pocket and time consuming. Now I a in the process of squeezing the very last possible bit of performance out of what I have and love.
I got to the point that every little imperfection get to me and I can not rest until I find the solution. Noise , dynamics, stark black backgrounds are on this list........and I am almost there.
My main system is what I am concern about and it is there where I want to try the OTG front end approach. My second or third system is not the issue since it is not used for critical listening but more of the casual listening (quality is still important and not taken for granted).
I have had some fine gear in the past and I can tell you that non of that gear grab me like RWA and Dodd battery gear. I have heard RWA during 2008 CES and I was shocked what I heard. It was one of the best rooms IMO. Very easy to listen to and extremely well balanced , from CDP all the way to speaker choice. From that point on I began to reseach the implementation of batteries in the audio system and its benefits......or shortcomings.
If there are any.........I am sure I am willing to trade those for all the banefits that it provides.
Amplifiers issues with limiting power delivery is the only subject that I will agree as its importance is clear. I am not sure how it affects the chip-amps but Vinnie probably has more to say about it and can explain it better.
Take care and hopefully I will see you at the July Rave.
Best Regards
Mariusz
