Hey, this fits right in with my other post about the new vinyl resurgence among specialty shops like Zia Records.

With Best Buy and Circuit City getting into the act, you know there is a big dollar demand driving the resurgence.  I just hope BB doesn't do to vinyl what it did to CDs; i.e., drive out the small specialty shops (or even the large specialty chains like Tower Records) that carry all the hard to find LPs.  It would be a crime if all you could get on new vinyl is the latest rock/pop top ten. :(

You know Worst Buy will have 50 copies of the top ten and that will be it. Their regular CD section sucks big time so the vinyl will follow suit, only worse.

Hey!

Well, I would say that this is better than nothing. At least this might get some attention from people, especially younger generation. Who's know maybe some young people might go out and get turntable after they see this :D

I think it is unlikely since BB and CC stores will likely only have only domestic press new releases main steam pop/rock on LPs. So, that leave everything else for a more specialty stores.

Take care,

It doesnt matter what they stock, even if its only top ten crap kids and general public may purchase then look to expand the collection fueling the general publics interest in Vinyl which will no dount convice others to invest in gear and release more albums so there can only be an upside. One downside is if nobody buys and it gets cancelled the press may cover it as a case of Vinyl is still dead....or on life support.

I walked in BB last week to pick up Coldplay's new CD and seen it in vinyl w/CD for $14.99. Haven't played the LP yet but the CD isn't bad.

I saw Radiohead's Greatest hits 4 lp set in Best Buy the other day.  It was in with the box-sets.  I'm wondering how many people are going to buy it without knowing its vinyl.  I don't think a CD is included, and it doesn't have idiot-proof stickers on it saying VINYL, NOT CD.

No need to speculate about CC.  Their vinyl web site is not new.  Infact I have been buying lps form them for a while.  Also amzon.co.uk only now with the low US dollar value they have become to expensive.

That reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers when he tries to put a needle to a CD....maybe they could market a tiny version of the infamous Laser Turntable that you could clip on your belt!

That's the most likely scenario, and the press will definetly not help us.  Analogy is what happened to DVD-A and SACD at BB - they're gone from the shelves at my BB.
