For Sale: Refurbished Scott LK-72

Here's an amp I bought about last December.  I've accumulated too many amps since then, either by building or buying. Time to clear out a bit. I've replaced every film and electrolytic capacitor. K40Y-9s for the power and pre section and JJ 'lytics for the HV supplies. Selenium bridge rectifier replaced with silicon. All new power tube and preamp tube sockets, along with new aluminum tube shields on the 12AX7s. I've Brasso-d the chassis as best I could, a bit of pitting still remains, but it is in decent shape. I've tried to show the chassis as best I could in the photos. Lettering is fairly intact on the front panel, no big scratches, but the edges aren't perfect.

I've removed and painted all the transformer lamination stacks and end bells - except for the underchassis bell on the PT, which would just get scratched again anyway since it supports the amp on the bottom. New rubber feet (not shown). I've emptied out and painted a can to an old electrolytic capacitor and used it as a house for the filament/bias capacitors. I painted the external power resistors with high-temperature engine paint.

I replaced the bias-balance potentiometers and any other out-of-spec resistors. It has all new Chinese 12AX7s that are quiet and sound quite good. It has the original Scott 6GH8As, but I will include a NOS pair of RCA for spares. Also included is the EH 7591A power tubes - which are pretty big and the two in the center slightly touch the output transformers - feel free to replace these with NOS or ones of your choice, but the EH do sound nice. Some might have heard about troubles with new 7591A tubes (maybe it's just JJ??), I put in separate screen resistors in because of this.  I've had no trouble with the new EHs doing anything funny.  I also added in bias measurement terminals in the back to ensure the tubes are balanced (instructions included). Included also is the JJ GZ34 rectifier that I have been testing with. It probably has about 25 hours on it, and has proven itself quite reliable - never any misbehaving, even on my high-ish 123VAC line voltage.

I think I covered everything, this amp should last a long while before it needs a service again. I put a good deal of money and time into this guy.

As for how it sounds - pretty fantastic! Dead quiet on my 96dB/1W/1m speakers. You won't be disappointed - at the risk of sounding like a car salesman I'll stop there.  There are plenty of internet reviews.

I'm asking $500 + shipping, double boxed and I will definitely pack it well. Figure $40 for packing+shipping for UPS or FedEx (your choice). Lower 48 states only.  Ask questions and if you need more pics let me know!  Money order preferred.

I haven't had a whole lot of activity here.  I'm user 'bricktop' on Audiokarma as well.

thanks! - Micah
