Bridging a Bryston?
« on: 22 Jun 2008, 11:54 pm »
I have a question regarding bridging. My front sound stage consists of 3 Bryston 7B SSTs. My surround speakers (full range speakers) are currently running off a Sunfire 5200. I’ve made the decision to switch to all Bryston. I’m getting either the PowerPac 300s or pair of 3B SSTs and running them in bridged mode. I prefer the looks of the 3Bs, but I’ve always heard very mixed reviews of running amps in bridged mode. Is there any difference in sound quality with bridging? What do you guys suggest? -Josh

HI Josh,

The only concern you have when you bridge an amplifier is that the amp 'sees' 1/2 of the impedance it does in Stereo. If the impedance drops too low then the amp may current limit.

Given that your using the bridged 3B's for surrounds I would not be to concerned as the surrounds are a very easy duty cycle.
