I'm selling this great pair of step-ups because I'm moving to a strain gauge cartridge that doesn't use them.
These are built around the marvelous Stevens and Billington TX-103 transformers, and are sadly no longer available, at least not from John Chapman and Bent Audio. John has put a lot of time and effort into finding a worthwhile replacement for these trannies, to no avail as yet. He still tells a little about them at
http://www.bentaudio.com/index2.html.
These transformers are set up for 26 dB step up, but can be internally reconfigured for 14 dB or 20 dB. I needed the 26 dB for a very low output Audio Tekne MC-6310 cartridge. I've never opened them up, so they are absolutely as new inside their sealed containers. I don't see any marks externally, either, but I will not call them perfect because they are used - Perfect really ought to mean new and unused.
Arthur Salvatore rates these Class A. Arthur is a lot togher critic than most, and I think a Class A from him means a lot.
http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Step-ups.htmlI bought these from John Chapman/Bent Audio in November 2004. I bought them preassembled and burned in for $825, and they are among the 3 or 4 best audio purchases I've ever made. I've posted two pictures of them in my gallery at
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery.
I believe the last time I saw these on Agon was for $1100. I would like to get $975 for them. I'll know the shipping cost after boxing and weighing them. If you want more pictures send me a PM.
Thanks for looking,
Dave
