A nicely done, disturbing movie, of little to no consequence when dealing with the human condition.
When dealing with sociopaths and our ability to deal with them, it is of great consequence.
I read somewhere that all animals, save humans, will deal positively and directly when confronted
with peril, no matter how small or insignificant it represents itself. For some stupid reason, humans
will overlook the danger, even when felt at a gut level, and go on, hoping for the best.
Some call this 'whistling in the dark'. This movie is a dark reminder of that and I believe, a very dark
comedy in its portrayal.
It avoids all the usual tendencies of the genre to impart that hollywood, feel good solution and there is
one scene that mocks it, and us, in the process.
Disturbing and worth watching, but for the sake of our children, don't let them watch this. Unless you
are prepared to have some long talks with them.
Naomi Watts and Tim Roth are great in this. The child who portrays their son is fabulous and the two,
reprehensible characters who are the 'visitors' are simply chilling.
I believe this was a pet project of Ms. Watts as she is listed as executive producer. I look forward to
her next project.
