QUESTION FOR OUR NEW MODERATORS
« on: 8 Jun 2008, 04:52 pm »
Hey Edward and Scott,
I am in the process of moving food related thread here, do you guys want drink related threads?
I've have reservations about moving drink related (scotch, margarita, beer, wine etc...) threads away from The Sports Bar.
I'm split 50/50 on where they belong. Drinks go with food of course, but drinks also belong in a bar.
But if you guys want them, I'll move them over here.

(delete this thread after a decision is made)

Hey Big Bob, how are my old Duets doing?  FWIW.........Scotch, Beer, etc. belong in the Bar,   Wine and dinner table drinks go with food.  But we are really splitting hairs here.  They probably belong in both places, don't you think?
Warm Regards, Guy

I tend to think they should stay in the Bar.  A drink sticky with links to those wonderful threads would be appropriate.

Hey Guy,
Those Hawthorne's are doing great. As you may remember, I had them in in my HT room for a couple months while my buddy was getting his new house ready. I liked them in my room, but amazingly enough, the quantity and quality of bass produced when they're in HIS room was "eye openingly better".
Kinda pisses me off really......... :duh:........
Oh well. I'm still cooler than he is.  :P
Thanks again Guy for parting with them.

Back on topic.
Sounds good having some liquor in the bar and some in with the food, but jeez, that be a nightmare "splitting hairs" as you called it being a moderator.
Could you imagine:
"Hey stupid, you can't talk about beer in the Culinary Circle.....What are you, an idiot?"
Yea, I agree, I don't want to go there.
But in the end, the decision is up to Scott and Edward if they want booze mixed in with food. Richs idea sounds appealing, but that's a project for another day.

I've started on the last (oldest) page of The Sports Bar (128 pages) moving threads, and have made it down to page 29. Actually, the I grabbed the most recent threads first since they're still active.
I should win the "fella that has no life award". I'm doing this on a dial-up internet connection.  :|
I'll need a new modem by the time I'm finished. I think I've let the smoke out of it.
I'm almost finished.  :D

Thanks Chris!
You helped me a great deal via PM's. Thank you for that.
I've since finished all 128 pages of the Sports Bar (my 56k modem survived).
I don't see any more food related threads. Please PM me if you see one I missed.
There are a couple stragglers I can't move because they're on boards I'm unable to "steal" threads from.
Chris PMed me about one on the G.A.S. board that looks pretty tasty (but I can't touch it).

I would think both of those topics belong in the Culinary Circle. Beer and wine making isn't that much different than making pickles, for example. It also seems logical to me that discussions about the equipment for prepping, cooking and clean-up should be in the same place as discussions about the food they will be used with.

This seems appropriate to me. I think once we're rolling, it will be fairly evedent where to look anyway. Btw I've done dinners around gin, scotch, tequilla etc., so it can work along with food, but I don't think it's a big deal either way.

Making beer is cooking right  :D
Which reminds me.  My wife wants me to find a Key lime Martini recipe.

If someone needs something moved PM me the link.

I tend to think kitchen appliances would go with the food, but that is up to the facilitators.

Thanks for all your hard work, Bob.  Dial up must really suck.  Grab some of those 20oz. filets in the fridge on your way back to the bar

I agree that brewing beer is a good match for the circle.  I also think tools, appliances and kitchen construction are good matches.

Just about anything from the growing, buying, preparing, consuming, sharing, preserving and disposing of food should be fair topics.

I'm confident the exchanges with be lively and informative - just like the rest of our circles.

However, for the time being, I think we leave the liquor in the bar.

Alright, so.....I'll move liquor MAKING threads and chat about appliances should come here.
Threads about beer, wine, scitch, etc... should stay in the bar.

Gotcha. I'm not moving any more today though. Maybe tommorrow.

Whoops, I moved a few wine related threads to here on accident.
If you guys don't want them, you'll have to move them back to The Sports Bar as I can't take threads from a Circle I don't facilitate.
Sorry about that.
By the way, the "move thread" button is on the lower left corner of your screen when you are in the thread.

I've gone through 120+ pages of the Sports Bar again to bring the wine/beer making threads, in addition to threads about kitchen appliances.
My brain is kinda' fried right now.

Bob

EDIT: You fella have five solid pages of food related threads. Take your time, dig through them, and bump them if they strike your fancy.
Have fun!  aa

Bob,

Thanks for all the work!  Over 120 pages a second time is a true dedication.  You are certainly the man.

I would be honored to fix you a wonderful meal anytime here at the Habitat.

The new circle seems to be cookin'.  Lots of hungry folks were really ready to talk food.

I'm sure we can all live with a few stray comments on wine, wine, wine.

Remember the Kurt Vonnegut quote from the first poet in outer space,

"Everything is beautiful and nothing hurt."

Thanks again,
Edward
