What's the sound like at Kevin's Piano performance studio in Orem?  (got the wife's killer grand there a year ago)  He's the smaller private store just 1/2mi south of the big franchise store on the west side of the street running N-S.  Kevin's on the east side....think it's State St but not sure.  I can find the invoice if necessary.

Kevin's studio is just huge; he said the guy who designed it was an acoustics nut & it looks like it.  Not many CA piano stores have recording studios, quite often found in UT.

Sounds like a no brainer to me.  I can't wait to give them a listen.

That's easy.  Buy a set of JM's before Duke wises up and charges the $25k a pair they are worth.   :D

Lee

Hmmmmmm, build up a bike or buy a set of JM's

Lee,
I had no idea that some of these guys were located so close!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is getting VERY interesting.

Hey Guys,

I lived in Happy Valley for many years, and still have close ties to the area.  We used to have an audiophile club (Timpanogos Audio Society) that met (mostly) at my retail store in Provo and used to have around 20 people participating, so there is a pretty good group of audiophiles just in Utah Valley.

Plus, you live in a an area that has a ridiculous number of high end companies, in light of the sparse population of the state.  I'm just listing these off the top of my head, I'm sure I'll miss some as there are bound to be new ones since I left 6 years ago:

Sonicweld
Wilson Audio
Kimber
Red Dragon Audio
Zu Audio
Wasatch Cable Works
Sound Lab
Electron Luv
Emerald Physics
Alternate Audio
Chateau Research/Unitek
Talon (if Rives hasn't moved them)
Kevin Brooks Audio
Rolls Corp.  (makes the Bellari head amp)
Escalante Audio

And, of course, Duke from Audiokinesis.  Not in Utah, per se, but close.

Apologies to those who I have missed.  But, just those companies listed above, giving presentations and tours and such, should keep you all busy!

Peace,

Lee

I didn't know he had a piano studio.  Interesting.

I saw him at a CES a couple of years ago, but I haven't even visited his new house (he used to live two houses down) and listened to his crazy horn system:

http://www.kbrooksaudio.net

This summer when we visit, I'll have to call him and take a listen.  Kevin doesn't have the word 'skimp' in his vocabulary and does everything absolutely first class, so I expect it's pretty stunning.

The nicest listening room in Utah, and one of the nicest I have EVER been in is at Dave and Sheryl Lee Wilson's house. An absolutely stunning room, sound wise and visually.  Plus, they are two of the most gracious people I have the pleasure of knowing.

Lots if not most of the UT high end companies are of course LDS, which is probably why Dave Wilson moved from my old hometown of Novato (briefly helped Dave at CES decades ago).  Ray Kimber's Isomike techniques are probably the best I've heard, period.  He's one of the nicest guys you'll meet to.

I've always been curious to hear how the Zu druids would compare to my MaxHemps.  Damn.  These guys are an hour away!
I can EASILY see a quick trip to their shop, or perhaps, they'd permit an in-home demo.

I'd love to hear the definition and presence as well, but my long-term needs (off-grid) make anything other than super-efficient loudspeakers difficult to envision.

Okay, guys.  Let's organize some group sessions!!!!!

I heartily second that one!
We only moved to the area a year ago, and had some trepidation.
Not only is the area less than 50% LDS, the mormons we've met thus far are some of the most open-minded and life-loving people we've ever met (I'm SURE exceptions exist).

Ok, count me as a resident/inmate of SLC.

Outdoor activities can't be beat!  Best skiing and mountain biking and some damn good golfing.

I guess the whole Mormon thing scares people off - good for us, mormon or not!

LEE, SORRY BUT THEM'S FIGHTEN WORDS....HAVE YOU BEEN HERE AT LOGAN USU'S PERFORMANCE HALL? http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=42752.0
Just kidding...I imagine Dave didn't skimp on anything!

USU's Caine Performanc Hall does have the best I've heard till you drag me over to re-aquaint myself w/ Dave (haven't seen much of him since he moved from Novato).

Sorry the image isn't larger:

Michael....um, let's not carried away & get the entire population of several other states moving in here....ditto everything you said....these Mormons are always interested in saving me money & it just is so hard to fit into a CA paradigm.....

HOLY CRAP!!!!!
The gallery is INSANE!!!
There are some pretty exotic horns there!

Met Adam & Sean at CES.  Definitely not your average CES exhibitors; ditto the wares, very nice.  Pretty much almost impossible to make/find a new niche, exactly what they did.  It's interesting to be young & not yet have learned "you can't do THAT!".....

Just got back into town and found ro7939's link to this thread over in my forum.

Thank you Jimbo, and you too Lee aka Cryoparts, for your kind words.

I'd be more than happy to bring speakers to a club meeting anywhere within the area.   It is okay if I bring my wife?  She's into this stuff too.

Like most of you, I'm a transplant; from New Orleans in this case.

Looking forward to meeting ya'll in person!

Hi Duke!
The more the merrier!
I look forward to a gathering soon!
I'm happy to host a gathering up on the East Bench, although others may have a more optimal acoustic setup for any gatherings before November (when we move to the new place).

Let's do this!  aa

PS- Duke, you guys are welcome to stay with us if you need a place to crash.

I'm officially offering my place in Providence 84332, 1 minute south of Logan; see system/room link in signature.  We are about 20-25 minutes NE of Brigham City on UT-89.

Duke just wrote & agreed to bring one pair of speakers.  I volunteer to drive up & get the other pair if participants prefer to hear both models.  I love them both.

I am:
Offline 6/10-6/14 A.M.
Online 6/14-6/16 P.M.
Offline 6/16 P.M.-6/20 A.M. then back online

My CCO (chief culinary officer) offerred to present "English High Tea" drink & food, being delectable teas, sandwhiches & deserts.  Someone else might offer to bring champagne (part of high tea) & beer.

Other participants may arm wrestle over dates because my schedule is open except for above; whatever you decide make sure the dates work for Mr. Duke.

Phono is still down, but CD's welcome.

Fantastic!
I'm available most weekends through mid-August, with the exception of July 4th weekend.

I'm happy to bring some beer and/or wine.

I know of one non A/C'er who would be keen to participate. as well.

Sounds great, Jim!

If we do this coming weekend, 6/14 to 6/16, the only speakers I'll have available are the big Dream Makers; I'm in between Jazz Modules at the moment.  But of course I could bring Jazz Modules to a subsequent meeting, wherever that may be.

Best wishes,

Duke

I should have been more specific about the dates.  Because of (rare) commitments, dates of 6/21 & later are good.  The later the date the more likely the dual subs may be up & running.
