Hello! I'm sloooowly building a 2.2 channel system for music and HT, although my primary love is music. I am interested in Odyssey products as they seem to meet my needs and budget points. I'm have an SB3 and DVD/CDP which I plan to hook into a Channel Island VPC-3 passive, and I'd like to acquire their dac at some point as well. I've considered tubes, SS, different integrateds and hybrids...but I think I like the idea of a SS passive into SS amps the best for my system. My speakers are currently Onix RS-450s and UFW-12 subwoofers. The Loreleis have caught my attention in part to the wonderful observations posted by member satfrat. I'm interested in keeping to a smaller two way tower and the Loreleis seem to have the sonic characters I like: detailed with a deep soundstage and not too analytical. My musical tastes mostly include the genres indie rock/jazz/electronica.

A couple of questions:
Is there a better place to find current product information besides there website? Does the tempest or any of the pres have a remote? I've read about a passive, is that still produced? Will a passive front end work well with a Stratos?

Best thing to do is call Klaus in the afternoon or evening (he works late!) and tell him you're in Indy.  He also has a newer speaker that is a little smaller than the Lorelei called the Syren, I think.  Quite a bit less money and same character.

I have the Candela tube preamp (his latest), which has a remote.  Definitely a nice piece and a killer at the price.

When you talk to him, just make sure you have your credit card ready

I'm sure Klaus would love to show you both his Lorelei's and the newer Syren. even after 4 years I'm still very high on my Lorelei's, especially with jazz, new age, electronica, instrumentals, vocals,,,,,,, etc. I've heard systems that are much better than mine but yet I still prefer what my system has to offer over others that I've heard. Deep soundstage with imaging and a musical body that pulls you into the music is what I love about my Lorelei's. I hope someday to have an opportunity to listen to the Syrens,,, just to hear for myself if they're really that close to the Lor's. Quite a cost savings if they are but considering how omportant a good set of loudspeakers are, I'm not sure I'd be willing to short myself that last 5%-10%.  aa

Tom, thanks for the info! I will have to consider both...as smaller and less expensive isn't always a bad thing.

Getting married eh? Hmmm... Perhaps you should give Klaus a call a bit sooner  before the better half decides you really didnt need that fancy stereo after all

lol...sigh...I wish I could call right away! I have some pretty hefty bills with the wedding and the honeymoon, and I have to work crazy overtime to clear my backlog before then. I haven't even been able to turn my system on for two weeks!!!  I know if I did I would sit down and listen all night, and I'm only getting 4 hours of nightly sleep as is. Plus I am trying to sell some speakers and other gear too, so I'd like to create a little space before I refill it I am with a great gal though and I feel lucky and blessed. I need someone to share my audio journey with...

Dave Allee and I are good friends, but don't get up there as much as I used to (parking is just a big P.I.A.). Suggest you check out the Dixon/Rhyne Project. Melvin is the best B-3 player on the planet, and has always been the best. Monday nights you might want to check out Frank Glover. He's one of the best clarinet players out there, and a damned good tenor sax player as well. From what I've heard I'd only rate Alvin Batiste to be at that level of play. Another good venue is the Chatterbox. Look for Kenny Washington and Cliff Ratcliff's groups. Another good place is Rick's Boatyard.
    I've seen a lot of groups go thru the Kitchen and the Chatterbox thru the years. Some of the best sax players ever. Samething can be said of keyboard players & and trombone players (I learned about the world of trombones from J.J. and a lot of beer). You do want to be at the Kitchen after the Jazz Fest (plan on being there very, very late) as a lot of folks will jam till the rooster crows. Sometimes Frank Steans will drag out his hollow body guitar, and just set the world on fire. Frank can out play 99% of the pickers out there when he's in the mood. (I got to listen to him jam with Farique Haque, Royce Campbell, Bobby Groom, and Larry Smith), so you do want to set in on one of their guitar summits (Kitchen).

Thanks for the suggestions Gary...I don't live far from the Chatterbox but have yet to visit. It will be good to hear more live music this year!

Klaus was very gracious and gave me a call back over the weekend. End result: I'll be putting a Stratos Stereo Extreme in my system this summer...

I also received my ciaudio passive pre today, so I can finally run both music and ht on my system again since taking out my processor. Its a nice unit and already doing its job. I tested out a bit of a movie at lunch, first time I've listened to my system in 2.1 for a movie as opposed to 5.1. I was really hoping I wouldn't regret foregoing multi-channel and going for a big two channel upgrade, so far I think I'm happy and on the right path.
