VDA2 & VAC1, voltage change
« on: 14 May 2008, 11:31 pm »
A question for Dusty I suppose. I need to change the voltage in my VAC1 from 120v to 240v can I do this with an internal switch? and would I need to change fuse size? I had a VAC1 which had a switch before but the CI Audio website mentions solder links.

Thanks for the hours of listening pleasure with this DAC,

George

Depends on the version...
early versions had a switch...later version uses solder-in jumpers.
The voltages are marked on the board, easy to do if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Thanks Dusty, I should attempt the soldering iron before a beer you reckon  Is the fuse the same?

You can use the same fuse or change it to 1/4A...it's not really critical as either value will protect the supply in case of a short.

To clarify...you will remove both jumpers in the 120v positions and insert a single jumper in the 240v position.
It's fairly self-explanatory once you open it up.

Can I ask how you got on with changing the voltage of the VAC1, was it difficult to do especially for someone who've never soldered before?

It was simple, I just heated up the 2 110v jumpers and removed them with tweezers, then put 1 back across the 240v contacts with some silver solder, once the soldering iron was really hot this only took 20 secs or so. I then filed down the solder (as it pooled a bit) on the reverse side of the board so it would slide back into the VAC case.......Dusty would be proud!!

Thanks for the reply, have you done any soldering before doing this or are you a complete newbie?
