Thanks, James. Now can you biwire with one set of speaker cables bare wire?

Hi Dave,

Not sure I understand - you can use bare wire as well but you need two sets of cables to bi-wire?

Dave,

One set of wires would connect to the posts (bare or spades) the second set would use banana plugs.  I used spades and  lockable (expandable)bananas.  The pins that cause the banana plugs to lock (expand) can be seen in the picture below, little post extending at top of banana connector adjacent to the knurled section.

With respect to someones question regarding oxidation of the conductors inside the insulation, I have been running this style of braided speaker wire within a clear insulation jacket for over 20 years and have not seen any oxidation of the wire inside the cable.  You are more likely to get oxidation at the terminations.  Bryston does a nice job in terminating the cables, as can be seen with the following image of the speaker terminations.

Sound is outstanding.  Bass response / overall response increased while maintaining clarity.  Bass is punchy and mids and highs clear.  Based on the price, bargin compared to specialty speaker cables, these are phenomenal.  Search and experiment concluded.  Outstanding cable and value. :thumb:

My current single set of wires are bare wire connection...so what do I go with on the second set? Bananas or spades?

Expandable Bananas.

In any connection what you want to do is eliminate the air. At a molecular level air can cause a diode or rectifying effect in the contact over time. So an expandable Banana has a 'pin' that slides down the center of the banana that allows you to press the outside surface of the banana tight against the inside of the 5-way speaker or amplifier binding post.  Also Gold to Gold contacts will not corrode in your lifetime so that is the preferred contact surface.

All Bryston products use heavy Gold plating (because flash gold is useless long term)  on all our connectors (spades and bananas) as well as inside the 5-way speaker binding posts and the XLR and RCA connectors.

Anyone have R/C/L measurements for the Bryston speaker cables? And it appears they are a parallel construction...correct?

Toka,

By R/C/L I assume you are looking for the cables resistance and capacitance values per foot of cable?

If this is the information you are looking for, I think this will have to come from James and his engineering/technical folks at Bryston.  There does not appear to be any information published on their site for these values and I did not inquire when I purchased them.

Thanks James, I'll look into that.

Dave,

Photos of the expandable banana plugs Bryston utilizes in terminating their cables are shown in the pictures I posted earlier this week.  You can purchase them from Bryston http://www.bryston.ca/banana.html  or I have used Parts Express for connectors,  they have a large selection,  http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=093-536

Parts Express is also a good source of IEC connectors for Bryston amps and Torus products if you are making your own power cords. http://www.parts-express.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CAT_ID=45&ObjectGroup_ID=914&raid=1&rak=iec_connector

Connectors used by Bryston are priced very well.

Hi,

Yes parallel conductors.
RESISTANCE 0.003 ohms per meter
CAPACITANCE 26.08 PF per meter

I will find out the inductance for you.
