speaker cables

I was about to decide my 8B's did not have enough power to drive my Magneplanar MMG's the way I like to hear them.

I had been using Paul Speltz' much raved about Anti Cables, which I had been using with other amplification.   Just to see what happened, I went back of a pair of Kimber 8TC's (1 meter each).

The difference was astonishing, smooth, liquid, wonderful top end extension and air....and the louder Shostakovich got, the better they liked it.

I assume the 8B's like a little capacitance in their speaker cables...that's all I can figure, any other ideas?????

I know nothing about the EE aspects of speaker/amp/cable interactions, but the problem may lie with your Magnepans rather than your NuForces. When I owned a pair of Magnepan MG-1.6s I noticed that they could be extraordinarily responsive to certain speaker cable designs. I found the sound a bit whitish until I stumbled upon a pair of Audience AU24 cables that very noticeably reined in the treble without losing transparency. I know that is how Audience cables usually behave, but the difference was much more noticeable than any cable change preceding it. The improvement was independent of the amps I used with the Maggies, which included a group of both linear and digital amps (NAD, MF, Bel Canto, NuForce, even Lavardin!).

To my everlasting astonishment, my GF also preferred the sound of the Audience cables. Her hearing is actually quite a bit better than mine, so I really ought not to have been surprised, but the fact that she even cared to let her opinion known really demonstrated to me the potential audibility of differences between cables.

I have no doubt the Maggies are a large part of the equation, but everything sounded fine with the class A/B Classe and the Anti-Cables, only when I went to the class D amp did things fall apart.

I will experiment some more....maybe what I and others hear as "transparency" from the anti-cables is, in fact, a tipped up treble, which combined with the top end extension of the 8B's did not work so well.

All I know is I am very impressed with the 8B's.....now.
