I guess I'm dating myself, but what the hell. That first one is a '69 Firebird convertible. Well back in '68, I was in the Navy and looking for a car. My friend had just bought a '69 Firebird conv. and I really lusted after it. But I had to face the fact that I really couldn't afford something like that.
Well I was stationed in Millington, Tenn. at a training base which is a little north of Memphis. The Pontiac dealer in Memphis called one day and said he thought he had something we might be interested in. So my wife and I drove into town to have a look see.
The salesman took us in the back of the warehouse and showed us a '68 Pontiac LeMans convertible. It was anything but loaded, but all we saw was the convertible. I always wanted a GTO but sometimes in life you have to settle.
I looked at the Firebird eBay listing and it boggles the mind that it's at $30K+ and still hasn't met the reserve.
As far as the car I want that I'll never get is an original Lamborghini Countach. Baddest looking car ever. If you don't know what it is, rent or buy a copy of Cannonball Run and watch the opening scenes. These 2 broads are driving one out in the Nevada desert at high speed and a couple of cops decide to catch them in a Firebird TransAm. At some point the Countach eludes them and pulls up behind the cops, unknownst to them.
The cops are on the radio, assuring headquarters that they are in hot pursuit. And then the Countach pulls out and you can hear them drop down a gear and flat out leaves the TransAm in their dust.
Good stuff.
