VC layers

Hello Kevin:

New to the forum.  Got a couple of questions:

1.  Are your subs 2 layer or 4 layer voicecoiled?

2.  Any plans to make a pro sound woofer in the near future?

I ask because Dan Wiggins has a 12 in prosound driver called the BOM 12.  Can' t purchase it because http://www.acousticdev.com/ only sells to OEMs.  Something like that would be perfect for my next project.

I know I'm not Kevin, but I think I can help with your questions a little bit.

1.  All the dual voice coil subs have to be 4 layers.  I believe his single voice coil subs are 4 layer as well.  That shouldn't be a concern to the consumer though as long as inductance, Re, and Mms are within useable limits of the design goals.
2.  The original Tempest, Shiva, and Maelstrom all worked great as pro-sound drivers, so the newer versions of them should work fine in that application as well.  However they won't match some of the characteristics of the BOM 12.

Steve is right... all the subwoofer coils are 4-layer coils.   The first/second layer, up/down is one 8 ohm coil, the third & fourth layers are the second 8 ohm coil.

I don't have any near-term plans for a pro-sound lineup.    Maybe down the road.
